Mmkay, I added that Pidgin thing and got into the room. All is well.

I installed Pidgin and was able to join, but it did NOT work when I tried to join through Trillian.  I ended up alone in a room by myself.  It appears that this is an "exchange 4" chat room, whatever that means, while Trillian defaults to exchange 5...
