Duke Nukem forever: New Trailer = end of the world?
Melodic:
You can hardly call STALKER a visionary success: the originally-slated game was so ridiculously ambitious compared to the finished product that it's ironic the game wasn't scrapped altogether. The first STALKER build was like GTA meets Silent Hill meets Deus Ex. What we got instead is a still-enjoyable semi-linear game with intriguing but half-finished elements.
At any rate, it's an ill comparison. Duke Nukem should have more success simply because it isn't striving to redefine a genre. I still argue that the teaser is no indication of an even remotely finished product.
KvP:
I don't think anybody really expects that, it's barely a tech demo. And I think you're giving STALKER short shrift. For one, it's enough evidence to disprove any sort of "the greater the development time, the worse the product" principle. It wasn't groin-grabbingly good by any means, but it was better than a lot of games that are released in short order. And I think STALKER is to be credited for having the best "living gameworld" to be put into a game of that scale. The AI was generally great.
Melodic:
But STALKER could have been made in literally half the time if the ideas were of that scale to begin with. Instead, they brainstormed what on paper was one of the most original and detailed games ever penned, and then gradually (over the course of 6 years) scaled back until they ended up with a game hardly worthy of the time spent. Don't get me wrong because I loved STALKER (I even modded for it [/spam]), but the finished product certainly wasn't worth a 6-year wait.
That being said, I doubt it will come to that with Duke Nukem because, honestly, the game couldn't be revolutionary if it tried. I think we'll have a fun, top-quality shooter, eventually.

Who bets $10 it gets delayed?
Again.
Ozymandias:
Can't be delayed anymore.
No release date! Someone learned from Blizzard.
