First time I read this, I missed the "catch" part and was confused. But why no soccer game?

Soccer bores the Hell out of me, so I can't really say I have any real interest in attending that part. I really would jusr rather chill with the probable one or two folks who won't feel like going.
Spinless:
Bad news, I'm afraid. I learned last week that I need "urgent" orthodontic work. It's probably not as "urgent" as they made out, but I feel my teeth are pretty important, and I can't afford both orthodontic work AND plane tickets.
So, instead of hanging out with you guys, I get to have braces instead. Fun!!!

Yeah, you're not gonna be alone there Jon, going to sporting events has never been a big thing for me, I'd rather watch them on television when I could be doing, you know, something else constructive as well.
