Alright, folks. Expounding on Shane's terms, the following needs to be addressed:

As you all recall, it was Rachel's name on one hostel room and Steve's on the other. With Shane now being unable to attend, this leaves us short another person AND a third of the gas money on top of Darryl and Katie's friend Kyle dropping out. This puts us on the hook for three people AND additional gas money. We've come to a point where pretty much everyone who is going to go has already stated as such, so we cannot find replacements.

Some of you have known it for a day or two from me bringing up the possibility in Gabbly, but this means Rachel and I are pretty much out. Some folks in Gabbly have generously offered to help us split the difference on the multiple newly empty beds, but it's not even just the money, it's become a severe issue of trust and a severe pain in the ass for us. Suffice to say, as much as we love you guys, it's become far more trouble than it could ever be worth to anyone but Tommy (Since he has more money than God). We don't want to come off as selfish, but we've both got enough on our plates that we simply cannot handle the work anymore.

That said, we are going to do our absolute best to insure that nobody who hadn't already flaked on this is going to get fucked over because we're not in anymore. To the best of my recollection, with Rachel and I dropping out and taking my brother with us, the grand total of people left between the two hostel rooms should be, my my count, Stephen, his fiance, Phil, Johnny, Matt, Linds, Katie and Mai. I need to check with Steve on it, but we should be able to slide the remnants of our room into his without any discomfort as long as two of ours agree to share a bed (There's two doubles and four singles).

Rachel and I aren't canceling our reservation until we're sure all other accommodations are set. We don't want anyone else to have to cancel because they can't find lodging.

I'll keep you guys updated.

Yeah, Tommy's remark is very important. While, yes, I am obviously awesome and without me Tronno will only be about 47% as much fun as it would've been otherwise, it's still happening. And we will likely see you guys at the next big gathering, we'll just be handling our own accommodations next time.

I suggested Chicago, that seemed to  go over pretty well. And if we do it there next year I will go for sure.

It's a true shame that you aren't going Jon, I was looking forward to meeting you on the battlefield. But, c'est la vie. As to the next big meetup, I think we should try for a more central location. I nominate Denver. I haven't been to Colorado for three years and I think it's high time to start planning a trip there anyway, so that's where I'll be in a year or so anyway hopefully.

Also, I so call dibs on not sharing a bed. But you'd thank me for this anyway, I hog the covers and snore.

The idea is to keep it in the general Eastern part of the US to make it easier for Europeans (and to a lesser extent, Canadians). Denver would be counterproductive to that.

I am thinking about going to college in Nashville, if I go to college at all. That and I'm fairly familiar with the D.C. area and the Metro system.

East Coast has my vote as well.

D.C. would be great. I love visiting there and using BoltBus, I could get there for $2.

Also, Phil, there's hope yet. Rachel and I have discussed the possibility of taking in a Sox/O's game in Baltimore sometime this summer. It's short enough distance that it would be easily doable for a two day trip.

Also, sharing might not be necessary. Linds is leaning towards not making it, and she's got some pretty good reasons.

Well, I talked to the people in gabbly after we talked and I'm starting to think I can do both. But I need to figure some things out first.

But if I do go, I don't think anyone would want to share a bed with me, because if the beds are smallish, I tend to slowly shove people off the bed and I hog the covers.

Guys I am so down with DC (DCon?). DC gets my vote too.

(Cause then I get to be a cheap fuck and not have to travel anywhere.) (And more importantly probably be able to actually go.)

Yeah I could go for DCon easily.  and I don't really like Chicago. Of course, not sure if I'd end up just going in for one of the days or actually trying to hole up with one of my friends who live closer so I could really fully participate.

Isn't DC not really pleasant in summer? I remember when I went a year or two ago in July it was ridiculously humid and uncomfortable. Any poor British person who came would probably be completely tormented.

On a personal level, I would prefer Chicago since I've never been there and I've been to DC several times. Also, it's closer to Canuckistan.

Yeah DC summers are not fun. It will most likely be more pleasant in Chicago. However, that re-presents the not east coast problem. That could easily be solved by having it further up north.

My vote for DC still stands on account of being cheap.

In a year I'll probably still be in Chicago, yes, but with me you never can be sure. I mean hell, a year ago I was living in NYC. And as it happens, my fiancee and I do occasionally muse about moving to DC.

I am anti-east coast because it is too far away for west coast people. Also, I'm about 6 hours away from Chicago compared to 12+ hours from east coast cities. Besides, it's a year from now and you can save monies.

The only other suggestion I can come up with is not doing it in one of the major major cities to save on hotel expenses. It also helps cut down on travel expenses if people are flying.

Chicago is actually a pretty convenient location, all things considered. Easy for people from all areas of the US to get to, relatively. Pretty close to the Canadian border, and probably not significantly more (although I can't be certain) time-consuming or expensive to get to from the UK than DC is. For those, and the aforementioned reasons of bad weather and the completely selfish reason of having been to DC three times before, I am going to continue supporting Chicago for next year.

And Linds, speaking as someone who is from the West Coast, it is so much cheaper getting to Chicago than to Toronto that I really don't care that it is cheaper for people on the East Coast. It's a simple question of demographics, ultimately. For whatever reason, there are way more regular forumites on the east side of this country than the west. Why Maryland has almost as many forum regulars here as California, a state with 7 times its population, I have no idea. But that's the way it turns out. I'll be willing to pay a little more for a plane ticket if it means that more people from Canadia and Europe will be able to come.

Pros: Joe Hocking lives there.

Cons: Joe Hocking lives there.

DC is the obvious choice.

Pie is implicit in all my dealings.
Except on every second Saturday. Then you might have to deal with scones or some other pastry thingy.

P.S. I favour Chicago. I'd rather it than DC (jhoking and mberan are there!), and I think East Coast makes it easier for people from Europe (who I would expect to be paying more than people in the West). I guess that needs input from them.
I obviously want it selfishly nearer to me, as well. I do kind of want to see San Francisco though, sooner or later.

That is, like, the lamest thing ever. Two hours? Two hours. I'll be spending something between an hour or two (depending on if we get a direct or have to go through Cambridge or Guelph first) and I think that's nothing. I've gotten pretty used to riding busses over the years, but man, just, have a nap or take a book or bring some knitting or something.

I was prepared to spend 14 hours on a Greyhound, but I've also been around for two years. But seriously. 14 hours on a bus SUCKS. 2 hours, not so much.

But I don't have to anymore, because Eed is amazing. Yay!

Then if you're worried about it now and you're still around next year, just go to the 2009 con.

okay dude, we obviously live close to each other if you're taking that bus, so we can meet up eventually even if i won't be at tronnocon.

I live at Princess St. & Regina St. in Waterloo. I have just made a pot of soup and am going to start rolling out my first ever batch of pita bread.
No one else is hear to eat it with me!

as for beds in the new and vastly improved Tronnocon Hostel Room Two, I can sleep on the floor. Or, like I said in gabbly, try and win a spot in someone else's bed in a card game. We'll see how it unfolds.

I think I had 180 posts on my profile when the idea of tronnocon started, and yet I said I'd go. True, I had bene around for at least 6 months but I hadn't been around for the entire summer and most people had already forgotten who I was. Now, eight months later I'm over a thousand and considered by some to be a regular here. I don't see the trouble, really. I made the commitment back then before I had met anybody on here or gotten to know anybody. Sack up

Edit: Note to self; do not play any card games whilst inebriated.
