What about the Avalanches? They're less overtly poppy than Daft Punk but pretty musically interesting, particularly if you like samples. Also, Squarepusher, maybe? Then again it doesn't sound like he likes long songs...

The Flaming Lips have many depressing songs. "Jesus Shootin' Heroin", "Felt Good To Burn", "The Abandoned Hospital Ship", "Godzilla Flick", "Love Yer Brain", "Stand In Line", "You Have to Be Joking (Autopsy of the Devil's Brain", "They Punctured My Yolk"...
You do realise they made albums before The Soft Bulletin right? Some of us would even say that everything before that album is their best work.
