Triple J Hottest 100 '07

I wish Triple J would stop worrying about how many listeners they get and and whether or not they're weirding people out and play some actually interesting music. The don't need ratings because they don't get money from advertisment. They're safe either way.

McTaggart:
I think they need to keep getting ratings to ensure they keep getting funding.

There are still some really good shows on triplej. 2008 with Richard Kingsmill and Mornings with Zan Rowe are hosted by people who seem to enjoy good music. The artist mixtapes and the five-songs-chosen-by-artists are some of my favourite bits of radio.

anditsdiscontents:
thing that everyone needs to remember about JJJ as well is that it's national, and thus is the only alternative radio for everyone in rural areas (who don't get FBi or 4ZZZ or Triple R, etc). where i grew up it was triple j or very bad 'local' top 40/country music stations.
so the kids in the country who vote don't have access to all the inner-city guides to what's cool or isn't, and have little to no original local music scenes. ever considered some of the reason powderfinger/grinspoon/silverchair/living end etc are so popular is because these bands actually play outside our little inner city enclaves?

hence, the listening to what the jays play, voting for not such great stuff, etc etc.

Lunchbox:
I like Triple J. Quite a bit. 99.9% of the stuff they play appeals to me. (Also, yes, the only other radio stations we have are idiotic Top 40 style ones.) I am particularly fond of Home and Hosed, the Australian music show, and Roots and All. They play stuff that I like! And it can only count as improvement because two years ago I was buying nothing but Powderfinger and Grinspoon CDs. These days, I've got archives of hundreds of new, local, and extremely kickin' songs. I may not have the "coolest" or most "indie" taste, but this music is what makes me happy.

No need to be so angry about it, kids.

I live in the middle of nowhere, Australia. I understand this. What I am trying to say is that they're funded by the government, so ratings don't factor in to funding, or if they do it counts for very little. This means they could probably play some more interesting music as they don't depend on ratings for money.

Also yeah, 2008 is a great show. Richard Kingsmill has a kickass taste in music.
