  • oh hi

I stumbled across these guys a few days ago.  They're from New Zealand, apparently.  And they fucking rock, seriously.  They're more in the heavy and somewhat mathy vein, like Té, but also with a major psyche and drone influence.  At some points they even remind me of a cleaner, more precise pre-Pink Boris.  Or like if Grails were a garage band.

Basically what I am saying is they are absolutely fucking amazing.  I'm going to put the album in the mediafyre thread here in a minute.  YOU NEED IT.  Also they are pretty unknown and on a really good label so you should buy it if you like it.

tl;dr - DUDE I AM SO STONED.

EDIT: Never mind, the album is on soundweave, go get it from there.  soundweave dot blogspot dot com.

Sold.

Thanks for the tip. That Set The White Flags On Fire album that I got from soundweave has reignited my post-rock boner, and you make this sound pretty damn interesting. Gonna have to check it out.

edit: 'Tunguska' is a fucking cool song

I stole a record by these guys out of the EA sendspace thread, actually. It is pretty excellent!

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

I think I've only done it twice?  Anyway, it's just a joke, and also true.  It's my posting style or whatever.  Also in thie case of this thread I am talking about a psychedelic rock band, and those are generally associated with, you know, bongs and shit.

DUDE I AM A LITTLE BIT STONED.

  • John Milton was a punk rocker.

Tommy, that was so appropriate and solution-bearing that I'm going to read through a bit of the Penny Arcade archive again.
You have inspired a revolution.
Also, Zero, you should post a direct link to the Medeafier thread with your big letters about how awesome this stuff is. People would appreciate that. I would appreciate that.

Their new album is pretty good, but if you dig their sound, you absolutely must check out a band called Bailter Space. They formed in New Zealand back in the 80's, relocated to New York in about '93 and were signed to Matador Records for a bit (Robot World is pretty much a must-hear). HDU shares a lot in common with Bailter Space's early-mid 90's sound.

I listened to Bailter Space in the mid-90s.  They were alright.  I don't think they were nearly as good as HDU, but I guess they're alright.

DUDE I AM SO ABOUT TO GET STONED.

heh, this reminds me of a French exchange student that was good mates with one of my brothers - my bro was showing him some album (can't remember what it was), and after listening to the whole thing he just said "MAN I AM LIKE SO STONED AFTER THIS!"

Anyway, High Dependency Unit's Metamathics is a pretty solid record.

Too bad I can't find anything on these guys.
