These wouldn't be as over-the-top hilarious to me if the original garfield didn't already exist.

None of the "tricks" you can apply to Garfield (such as removing Garfield, or silencing him, or randomizing the panel) will make the strip funny per se. Honestly, it's an inane (but insanely funny) exercise.
