Fun Stuff > CHATTER
Ridiculous Decadency
mooface:
i go to a private american university in rome, italy. fashion is very important here. i really like clothes, and i like dressing up, but there are two kinds of fashionable people who bother me:
because public universities in italy are free, most of the italians who end up going to my school are rich, spoiled brats. they all dress head to toe in prada, gucci, dolce & gabbana etc. they look like shit. considering how expensive their clothes are it's amazing how their outfits tend to range from lacking any sort of personality to just downright tacky. i don't get the appeal in wearing things that cost a lot when you just end up looking so bad! (and i suspect that the reason they look so bad is because they are more concerned by the names they are wearing than they are about simple things like color coordination)
the other kind of people who bother me are the kind who are complete snobs and look down on other people for being unfashionable, but wear the most ridiculous things just because they are "in" that season. for example: overall shorts. they are pretty ridiculous looking. i mean, i love them, but that's because i love ridiculous things. there is a girl i know who hated me purely because i did not wear things that were "stylish" (she admitted as much to me). i saw her wearing these overall shorts and i was really annoyed. i have a hard time believing she would have worn them if they had not been in fashion at the time. in fact, they looked pretty silly, and i am positive that if she had seen somebody wearing them a year earlier she would have despised them. it is great to see people wearing weird and fun things, but not when they are wearing those things purely because they are "cool". in my opinion, that just completely defeats the purpose and kind of makes you a hypocrite.
however, i really do enjoy fashion magazines and i love seeing stylish people all dressed up! i just think it's really not necessary to spend a lot of money on labels to look good. the people who's fashion sense i am most jealous of wear very few/no things by famous designers. i don't necessarily follow trends, and i like to think i have my own style. but i do appreciate when certain things become fashionable because they give me new ideas of what to wear, or sometimes things i already liked become "cool" and then it's easier for me to find them!

In what fucking universe is this guy well dressed?
He's wearing clashing colours for a start.
Liz:
What colors in that outfit clash? The color combinations are definately non-traditional but they still work.
Nodaisho:
I have to agree with Khar in disliking that outfit, the only one that I saw that I liked out of those three was the last one, and the bright shoes didn't help it.
I am not the most varied in clothing, though, I would be perfectly fine with only having blue and black in my wardrobe, except for my brown coat.

The shirt and the trousers.
