Ridiculous Decadency
Patrick:
Hey MaiAda if it makes you feel better (read: I will stop harrassing you now) I am the kind of jackass who will spend $250 on a box + cables that makes my guitar make echoey sounds. Kindof ridiculous since all it does is make echos. It's a hella versatile piece of gear, to be honest, and in combination with some reverb it can fill out your sound like a motherfucker, but still.
I spent far too much money on clothing and unnecessary expensive food crap this summer. Something like $400. That's what kept me from buying a the guitar I really wanted this summer (it was like $1400 and I only had a grand at the end of the summer thanks to that $400 gone, which I blew on a different, cheaper guitar, a computer, and MORE clothing).
If I manage my money better with groceries and stuff, I will be able to afford either an iMac or a Fender Jaguar + Fostex MR-8 recorder. I am really tempted to go for that Jaguar + MR-8 and just go batshit with recording things.

Honestly, I'm generally not a decadent person. I'm ass tons of frivolous, but the vast majority of my hobbies are things that can be gotten on the internet.
I used to be really much worse with money. I'd spend way too much on shit for girlfriends (I bet Rachel's glad she caught me now that I'm out of that phase), I'd buy like $30 worth of comics a week, etc...Now I keep it pretty curbed. My one vice is electronics, and even that's not awful. Friends will come over and see what appears to be a relatively extravagent setup (I have an HD projector, a Wii, an Xbox 360 and a surround sound system on top of my computer). I honestly haven't spent that much money on all this stuff. The surround system is something I literally built most of myself from spare parts (The receiver was bought at retail, but the speakers are all salvaged from parts in my dad's garage) and then there's about $1150 sunk into the living room setup in total. In hindsight, that's really not a whole lot for someone who's not in school.
Folks in Gabbly will sometimes figure I'm spending ass tons of money, but really, I just tend to luck into a lot of sales and shop around a lot. When you live in an area like Boston where there's tons of retail and combine it with the internet, it takes less effort than you'd think to find a deal. My camera only cost me $190, my computer was only $600-700 in new parts (With the rest canabalized from my old computer, which I used to fix and upgrade my mom's). My Jackson, which Shane seems to be in love with, was gotten on the cheap too. Even with all the frivolous and unnecessary crap I own, I still manage to go out at least once a week usually. It's all about money management, folks, and a lot of you will be better off than me when you get out into the real world cause I'm living off salaries that a college dropout pulls down.

Apple computers and organic/free range/local/carbon neutral/biodynamic/hippie food.

Guitars, manga, eating at restaurants way too often.

Last time I really went crazy I think was on pimped out spectacles. These bitches cost £360: ultra-thinning, titanium frames (I couldn't afford memoflex), anti-scratch, anti-glare and transitions effects on the lenses so they automatically turn into sunglasses when exposed to light. PIMP AS FUCK.
