--- Quote from: NarwhalSunshine on 15 Apr 2008, 18:49 ---Whats the deal with Doc Martens? I can get a pair of combat boots that look the same and will last just as long for a lot less. Hell the boots I have now are almost 30 years old and still in great condition, they just need to be resoled.

I dunno, I have a pair of their non-combat boot boots, for when wearing combat boots isn't appropriate. They aren't better than the others, really, they are horribly uncomfortable without new insoles, worse than my usual boots were.

My boots would have been $200, but I got them half off because they were surplus. You can get current-issue boots for less than that at a surplus store, rated for extreme temperatures, but they don't have the zippers, and I like not having to lace and tie the shoes every time.

Magnum makes a pair of current issue boots with a zipper for around $80, and kudos for not paying full price.

Huh, I didn't know that, the closest place I could find that had any kind of jump boots was a denver army/navy store, and the cheapest they had were the Rockys. Did you get yours at a chain surplus store? I think the cheaper ones I saw in an ad for my local store were $75 or something like that, could have been the magnums, but of course, I saw them a few months after I had gotten the boots, and the day after I had bought my docs.

NarwhalSunshine:
I got mine from my dad, I dunno where he got them from, but I also live right outside of an army base so I have more access to uniforms than most.

IronOxide:
I bought new shoes today! One of them is a new pair of converse sneakers (not Chuck Taylors, just some sneakers that they had that I liked), and I got a pair of denim Rocketdog shoes that after the buy one get one 1/2 off, were only $7.50.

It was a good day for me.

RedLion:
Wow.

My parents haven't bought me squat in the last 5 years, and today, as they're leaving to go to Boston to visit my sister at her college for the weekend, they just leave me $100, "for whatever."

Decadence will surely follow.

valley_parade:
Since I was a wee lad, my favorite hockey player was Cam Neely, and I always wanted his jersey.

So yesterday I shelled out $25 on a t-shirt with his name and number on it. Sad part: nhl.com sells the same shirt for $22.
