Flash timewaster: SHIFT
« on: 09 Apr 2008, 17:53 »

http://armorgames.com/play/751/shift

Was linked to this via the OCAU news site.  It's a fairly simple platformer with an interesting gameplay twist.  You use the arrow keys to wander about, the space key to jump, and the shift key to flip the world upside-down.  I'm sure it's not a 100% original concept, but it's executed in a fun way.

The only complaints I have can be summarised thusly:

- too short
- not challenging enough (probably due to being too short and therefore not having time to ramp difficulty up)
- too many Portal references

Still a cool little time-waster in my opinion.

It was on the shorter side, but as far as Flash web puzzle games go, it's a pretty good one.

If you liked that, try Shift 2. It is a bit more challenging, because it introduces gravity-shifting arrows. Still just as short, though.

I played this a few weeks ago and was sorely disappointed with the Portal references. If you have a good, original-esque concept for a game, why lower yourself to just having the game be a string of references to a better, but played out game?

I wanted to find the creator and shake my head in disappointment at him.

Concept almost definitely stolen from squidi.net, but fun anyway.

How so?  I can't see any of his concepts that correlate to this.

It still has the references to Portal as well.

See, this is why you gotta use 1337. The filter doesn't recognize Chuck Norr1s.

I already saw that one.  Just like a lot of his ideas it's very vague.  If he spent more time developing the ideas that he has instead of making as many of them as he can then maybe some of his ideas would be more fully fleshed-out and decent.  By his standards I have probably about twenty game ideas in my head right now, I just don't have the artistic skill to represent them properly as he has.

Yeah, but the basic idea is there. I'm not saying it's a particularly fleshed out or even usable in the state he put it up in, just that the idea probably came from there.

I have no idea actually who it is that's behind that word filter.

See, I woulda' guessed it was linked to CAD but I can't see any trace of that on the site.

Ah, found it.
