One thing I don't get.... why is it acceptable to display any emotion regarding cartoons, including anger at poor choices characters make, happiness when good things happen to them, enjoyment from reading their story, revulsion at a character drawn 'ugly' or 'dirty', or even using gender-specific words like "he" and "she" to describe collections of ink and paint, but as soon as the emotion expressed is attraction, people come out of the woodwork to piss and moan about it?

The same reasons that people have emotional reactions to any piece of fiction, whether it be written, acted, or drawn.

It's called "willing suspension of disbelief" and it's part of what makes us human.
