What The Heck Fest 2008
« on: 22 Apr 2008, 16:35 »

The lineup for What The Heck Fest 2008 was announced! These are people who are confirmed on their website to play:

Lucky Dragons
Katy Davidson
the Graves
Mirah
Kimya Dawson
Khaela Maricich/the Blow
Alyse Emdur
Nate Ashley
Your Heart Breaks
the Gift Machine
D+
Bryce Panic
Calvin Johnson
Ian Svenonius
Rich Jensen
Al Larsen
Karl Blau
Ô Paon
Angelo Spencer
Mount Eerie
the Owl & the Pussycat & the Moore Brothers

Honestly, the fact that Ian Svenonius is involved (and Calvin Johnson!) was enough to convince me. I'm going to buy my ticket in a couple of minutes. Anyone else planning to go?

If you don't know what WTHF is, it's a festival held in Anacortes, Washington, on July 18th, 19th, and 20th. It always coincides with a city holiday called Shipwreck Day, which is essentially a giant yard sale.

Anyone else going? I would love to meet some people there.

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

I don't I've even heard of a single band on this lineup, which is kind of unusual. I can only conclude (and hope) that it's some sort of epic noise fest.

nothing here that strikes my fancy, apart from calvin johnson.
(and ian svenonius, if i remember correctly)
kimya dawson is okay in small doses, but i probably wouldn't bother seeing her live.

I really want to go to this, but I already dropped a bunch of money on Sasquatch tickets and I have no idea how I'd get to Anacortes, anyway.  I don't know though.  I've heard that it's a really good time.

the only band on that list i've heard of is Kimya Dawson but i like her well enough and Shipwreck Days is always pretty cool.

i'll probably go. i don't really have an excuse not to.

Also I would like to point out that the combination of Sailor Moon and faux-Kerouac / Sonic Youth spelling is perhaps the purest distillation of what this forum is that we have yet been presented with.
