Really cool old games that nobody remembers.
Funk Thompson:
Alien Legacy by Sierra.
It combined a compelling storyline with Sim / Civ style play - lots of exploration and resource management and was downright difficult, but not in that "throw it down a few flights of stairs in frustration" way.
Never beat it, and have several times tried to get it to work in emulators and Virtual Machine with no luck.
In fact, would pay if someone could instruct me on how I could get it to run on my rig.

sure 99 wasnt that long ago (fucking 10 years nevermind long enough) but this was an awesome pc rpg and i actually just downloaded an iso again to play through it, lots of fun to be had here, and maybe aside from dialogue is quite original.

Heh I remember that game, it seemed too short to me if I remeber correctly. Though the cover art reminded me of a game I really liked that I could want a sequel too,
Suppose its not old enough yet though.

Believe it or not, I still have Oni on my notebook (lol), beats the hell out of freecell.
A couple of my favorites were in the Quest For Glory series

Dude, this game still has a bunch of fanboys. Also, it is amazing.
The extra letter:
Fantasy Zone.
A nifty, psychedelic little shooter that was released on the Sega Master System. Back when I was a kid, this game was my favourite game of all time, but it was only after I found my Master System gathering dust back in 2000 that I sat down and finished the game.
I may be biased, but the Master System had some really incredible games.

Also, there is a new game coming out from the same director that has Vyse and Aika as playable characters. Not quite a spiritual sequel in the sense of say, Bioshock, but the closest we'll get to SoA2 for a while.
