The difference is that they provide at least moderately entertaining value in the script. Yours does not.

What, you mean "making a pop culture reference and then explaining it and then somehow that's supposed to be the punchline" isn't a comic device?

edinborough:
the thread was "cyanide and happiness"

pop culture references and explaining them comically as a way of analyzing them is called social commentary.

and clearly none of you have ever read dinosaur comics.

Spluff:
C&H wasn't a thread started by some guy who signed up for the sole intention of trying to leech readers and who didn't even bother to read the stickies. It was a discussion about one of the biggest webcomics around, created by somebody who wanted to find members with a mutual appreciation of the comic.

Also,

That'd be why we have this emoticon.  :-D

Come on, there are only like three of those---but art is not the comic's point, so no problem. You have to work on the writing, though! Specifically: 1. Pop culture references by themselves don't work as jokes. 2. No explaining your punchlines! If your punchline needs to be explained, rewrite it.

Yes that can work very well, but so far you have not done it.

We all read Dinosaur Comics!

edinborough:
ok, so like i said...i thought that's what the thread was about...and i apologize for the mistake

and the point is that it is in the style of dinosaur comics...i realize it's not as good yet.

also, the "jesus is my homeboy" t-shirt comic is social commentary.

and if you don't think it's funny, that's fine.  humor is relative....but why come on here and comment with such hateful remarks?  it's unnecessary.

*and also, if you were smart and didn't like my comic, you would not have commented at all...considering it puts my thread at the top of the forum everytime for more people to view.
