My current multi-effects pedal crapped out on me and I'm looking for a new one. I was considering a Behringer V-Amp. But any other recommendations? I would prefer it to be ULTIMATE.

I have a V-Amp, it's a bit shit. My dad has a Korg something which is much better.

Actually, it depends what you want it for. The V-amp is probably quite good for metal playing, but I prefer a cleaner sound which it doesn't do so well. Also, the lack of a pedal is annoying, you can't do a manual wah.

Why would you want a multi-effect pedal? Why settle for a bunch of knock-off effects when you could get a genuine effects chain and get the real thing?!

What do you want it to do? As far as "ultimate" goes, I think the GuitarPOD's at the top of the list. It has effects and modelling out the wazoo, small and probably sounds better than Behringer (I can only speak from using the BassPOD though). Besides that, there's the Electro-Harmonix Holy Stain, which has fewer features, but they're useful ones. Plus Electro-Harmonix is known for making quality products that'll retain some value and hold up well over time.

I'm not made of cash. The genuine effects are ridiculously expensive and aren't even that great. I would rather get hundreds of "knock-off" effects then 1 "genuine" effect.

I was mostly just hasslin' you, Beast, but there are inexpensive and decent effect pedals. Danelectro, for example, makes some pretty solid pedals for cheap. Their overdrive pedal is apparently legendary. At least, the vintage ones are, but they have reissues out.

If you're absolutely adamant on getting a multi-effect pedal, you could always check out say...Boss or Line 6. The latter's POD multi-effects line is apparently pretty cool.

The Danelectro pedals are only $19, but most multi-effects include those effects. And of course you can preset them to the multi-effects pedal so it's basically the same.
The Boss pedals look cool, but they aren't listing the effects.
As for the Line 6 pedals, which is the best? I'm browsing them right now and the POD® xt Pro seems best for effects. I think these Line 6 products are more for recording than just playing. I'm looking for a pedal with hundreds of "high-quality" effects, a few customization options, and obviously effect preset options.
Well, on the whole, which pedal do you consider to be the best? You seem to know what you're talking about.

I vote for the Line 6 POD, in any of it's incarnations.

Avoid "Multi-effects boards" at all costs. Seriously. The POD however, has some decent effects.

But then again, learn to play interesting stuff without effects first of all.

Line 6 POD Live, or go for the biggest one. They have a new one coming out with some crazy 20 stomp switches, sounds insane(ly hard to use)

Have you tried looking on Craigslist? Where I live (Baltimore), MFX pedals go up on craigslist at least every other week, and most are at or under $100. If I had to choose, I would take a decent used MFX over a new Behringer. But that's just me.

The Rp500. Just got it last week... it's brilliant. Hated multi-effects till I tried out this thing. It's unique in that it's an instant pedal board, and it actually acts like one (simulates separate stompboxes in a chain). The deal maker for me here was you can hook it up via USB and edit the effects from the computer to your liking, no more endless knob twisting. In about an hour I had the exact sounds I'd been trying to get for some time from my analog stuff..along with effects I wasn't able to make before (a vibrato effect whose depth was controlled by an LFO... there's actually two LFOs in the unit you can assign to any parameter) Parametric Eqs, amp simulation, the list goes on. Best 300 bucks I ever spent.

also..The line 6 is comparable, it's good too, but overall they make the effects too goopy (to simulate analog) for my tastes..still I wouldn't bash it, the floor pod is a fantastic piece of equipment as well.

Man I can never get these threads. I honestly just plug my guitar into my amp. I caved this week and bought a footswitch so I can play clean lines, except it doesn't work.

If you're going to buy a pedal though, be a man and buy a Death By Audio pedal. Alternatively, get a bunch of real effects for cheap - eBay, motherfuckers!

I wish I could find it but there was this great website I'd unearthed that had a shit-ton of excellent DIY schematics, including a custom harmonic percolator.

That sounds like the way to do it. My brother's bassist does some custom pedal work and he's only like sixteen, but I'm going to chat with him and see if he wants to custom-make some shit.

So far, I've built the "Muffmaster" (an Orman designed top boost pedal..think brian may), an MXR + distortion clone, an 8 watt amp for recording, and a DOD Gonkulator clone. DIY is great fun.
