So, I'm sure I'm not the only one who was hoping such a band existed. On further inspection, I did happen to locate a band called Abney Park which is close enough to fit the bill - thought I'd just toss it out there for anyone interested. And with that, I'm back to my lurking! *flees*

I think maybe you'll have to come back from your lurking to elaborate a bit on your post. I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about...

(I do know from my reading of steam-punkish internet things that Abney Park are a self-proclaimed "steampunk" band, I'm just not sure what you're getting at here.)

He assumed that everyone still/does read the QC webcomic religiously.

Yeah, my bad. Was referring to a recent QC comic which talked about the existence of a supposed steampunk styled band, and figured any interested in that kind of thing may like the look of Abney Park.

So... do I get treats, or some kind of shiny object for emerging from my lurkage? :/

So what do people think about Abney Park? I've only heard about 1 song, and I thought it was pretty good, though I'm willing to admit that my affection for Steampunk literature and the fact that they've adopted that as a gimmick, may be coloring my views.

I think Steampunk needs to not be a genre of rock music, period.

Comics? Awesome.

Music? Sooooooo dorky.

It's not a genre so much as a theme. Abney Park are pretty ok. I've never sat down and listened to an album, but I've heard a lot of their music. Not really the sort of thing that I can really get into unless I'm already in the mood, but they're not bad by any means. They're really, really good to their fans.

If Abney Park is the musical genre of steampunk, then I can safely say that if that genre didn't sound so much like not punk at all I'd be interested in it.

Done fucking around here. The Cassettes, people. Shelby Cinca of Frodus' steampunk band. Enough.

Edit: Actually listened to Abney Park. I can't stand this crap. Sounds like Tool doing the soundtrack to Wild Wild West.

Man, I was going to get a "steampunk" accordion made and then start a new musical Genre called "Steamfunk."  Now these @#$%ers stole my idea :D

After giving them both a listen, I must say, the Cassettes win. By a large margin.

Morbid curiosity compels me. The Cassettes are pretty great though.
