I agree with the messenger bag being a pain in the neck. (literally) While the back pack doesn't work all that well for style, it is the most practical. If you're going to a party and need to pack extra clothes and the like. So really, it's a choice of style or comfort

Get a briefcase.

Hey guys, screw you all I love backpacks. One of the first things I am getting when I am solid is a proper packing backpack(so I can look like a soldier, or possibly a hobo). I like the idea of being able to fit my entire life into one bag(It's true I could! I have a ton of righto awesome camping gear, I am such a little trooper).
However, Strappy back packs for non-packing uses are stupid. :C

I went a bit crazy on Backpacks. I got into the whole Zombiesquad thing and decided I needed a better 'pack for when the Zombies come so I bought this big Maxpedition one. They're awesome bags but expensive. But then I realised I wanted one for work and stuff too so I bought another one and it turned out to be too small... So I bought ANOTHER one... And these are, like, £100 each. More in some cases.
So, now the one I have is still a little on the snug side, the emergency pack one is too small for that and weighs half a ton when fully loaded and the small one is living under my desk... I don't know what to do with it.
The moral of the story is, if you want a backpack then go to a real, live shop and buy one that's right. Don't get one off the 'net and guess at the specs. Oh, and don't buy cheap chinese knockoffs either. I have one of those and it sucks.

Backpacks are excellent, so much more practical than other forms of bag. Need to go shopping or camping or pretty much any situation where you would be required to put some items in a bag, backpacks are the answer!
