So, uh can you guys help me? I really want to be limited based on my music taste. I'm willing to hate emos and everything!
Subcultures are wonderful things, I've always wanted to be part of a group of people who try to differentiate themselves from other people because of something as shallow as music and hating emos/ other actions of the indie stereotype. Also, I've always wanted to feel arrogant about how much more dignified we are compared to other subcultures. When in truth, we're actually no better than everyone else because of how shallow our little elitist group is.
You're also willing to start a thread to trash a bunch of kids that don't really care about being "scene."
Just because it's an indie-based comic doesn't mean every fan is "indie." I know I'm not. I mean, I like the music that Jeph throws out as suggestions. I'm a pretty big fan of the Decemberists now, but hell, I listen to everything else too [yes, including rap, reggae, and country. You can't say you listen to everything if you exclude some styles]. My clothing style? I guess there are some indie characteristics, but is that what's important?
No, you grow out of the subcultures when you finally realize you who are and that you are an individual in a crowd of many. Who cares if you fit in as long as you like who you are?
Subcultures are for teenagers. However, bickering over them and making fun of them is something reserved for those of us that outgrow the subcultures but don't outgrow the teenage mindset. It's blase and immature. Who cares enough to take the time, really?
It's high school drama thrown all over the western world.. because you know the eastern world doesn't give a shit about who's on top.
