Sasquatch! Music Festival
« on: 18 Feb 2009, 11:11 »

so, every summer at The Gorge in Quincy, WA dozens of bands get together for three days of music, comedy, and debauchery.

the line-up for this year has just been announced and man i am fucking pumped. it's takes place on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday of Memorial Day weekend and is guarunteed to be awesome (and waaay too hot).  i'm going to try to go to all three days but if that doesn't work then i'm definitely going on Monday, at the least.

anybody else going?

the line-up includes, but is not limited to:

Natalie Portman's Shaved Head, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Tobacco, Janes Addiction, Gogol Bordello, Nine Inch Nails, The Walkmen, Girl Talk, Animal Collective, Explosions In The Sky, DeVotchKa, Of Montreal, Blitzen Trapper, School of Seven Bells, as well as Demitri Martin and Zack Galifianikis (sp?) doing comedy.

more information

it's gonna be a helluva time.

oh yeah, and in case you were wondering how epic The Gorge is, take a gander at this:

there's also a bunch of booths/smaller stages/beer gardens that aren't pictured here. i saw Modest Mouse open up for The Pixies here in like '05 or '06 and it was amazing.

I would have the hardest boner for that show if there was a snowball's chance in hell that I could make it.  But I can't, so right now my boner is pretty much the opposite.  It's so depressed that it has begun to hibernate somewhere in the warmth of my kidneys.

This looks like an awesome lineup but Primavera looks better, in my humble opinion (although I can say from experience that Black Moth Super Rainbow and Explosions in the Sky are both great live bands. The former not at all for a festival setting but still great and I would love to see Animal Collective). But really, Jesus Lizard, Aphex Twin (!!), Plant and Animals, Yo La Tengo, Deerhunter, Lightning Bolt, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Shellac, Dan Deacon Ensemble, Fucked Up, Gang Gang Dance, Magnolia Electric Co., Shearwater, SunnO))), Wooden Shjips and oh so many more. God it sounds good. Usually I'm against going to festivals but I would make the trek to this for sure if money wasn't an issue.

EDIT:
OK, I take it back actually. Cool as some of the bands playing Primavera are, the overall lineup for Sasquatch is a lot stronger. Wish I didn't live on the opposite end of the country...

I've been debating going to Europe for some time, and Primavera may seal the deal.  If not, I'll be going to Sasquatch.

But really, in my mind, there is no comparison between the two.  Sasquatch has some cool bands playing, notably TV On The Radio, Bon Iver, Explosions In The Sky, M83, Sun Kil Moon, The Wrens, St. Vincent, and King Khan & The Shrines.  And they could possibly add some other cool acts.

But Primavera's lineup is amazing.  Andrew Bird, Aphex Twin, Black Lips, Fucked Up, Gang Gang Dance, Ghostface, Lightning Bolt, Magik Markers, Magnolia Electric Co., My Bloody Valentine, Oneida, Phoenix, Shearwater, Shellac, Sonic Youth, Spiritualized, Sunn 0))), The Jesus Lizard, The New Year, The Vaselines, Women, Yo La Tengo.

I mean, the fucking Jesus Lizard.  Anyone who would choose Sasquatch over this is crazy.

Not to mention squarepusher.  I wish I could afford the airfare to Primavera!

so i think i have decided that i'm just going to go on Monday because i don't really have a whole helluva a lot of extra money these days and for me, that's an almost unbeatable lineup.

i'd like to go Sunday too, but only to see like 2 or 3 bands, so unless i'm rolling in cash sometime soon then i'll have to skip it.

(I guess I am excluding Lollapallooza and Bonaroo, but still.  Goddamn.)

I truly hate that I was at WSU for 5 years and didn't make it a single time. Now I'm out here in new england and will probably never get a chance to make it out there again!
