Sure, i do believe that he did not know better... but his excuse did not get accepted, especially with his Libertines Album "Arbeit macht frei" - a sentence which is written over every gate of a KZ (Concentration Camp).

But he did not know how lucky he was to survive this the last days... Singing on a concert in Munich the first verse of the "Deutschlandlied" which was used by the Nazis and is taboo to sing in Germany since WWII...

http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/12/01/pete-doherty-apologizes-after-singing-nazi-anthem-in-germany/

http://www.spiegel.de/international/zeitgeist/0,1518,664282,00.html

He tried 5 songs to calm the crowd down who threw things after him, show him the middle finger and booed, whistled and yelled at him... before security removed him from the stage because they were not able to hold the crowd any longer that screamed for his blood...

Didn't this happen to Chad Kroeger once already? Just minus the Nazi shit?

Also:

Quote
"Look at me, suburban dung," Manson told Wesley. "Does this shock you?"

When Wesley replied no, he said Manson became "petulant." Recalled Wesley: "He started stamping his feet and shaking his fists, saying, 'What do you mean no? Aren't your uptight, puritanical sensibilities offended? Don't you want to censor me so you don't have to confront the ugly truth I represent?' So I say, 'Well, not particularly.' Then, after a long pause, he says, 'Well, screw you, jerk!' and walks off sulking."

I was going to post this a few days ago when it happened but then I didn't because I figured that David_Dovey's post was all that needed to be said on the matter.

Arbeit mach Frei (Work makes you free) was not written over the gate of every death camp, but it was written over the gate of the most notorious death camp, Auschwitz -- where 1.1 - 1.5 million were killed, 90% of them Jews.  I think I actually find this more distasteful than the whole injecting a sleeping woman thing.

Most camps used it:

A few others had "Each his own" (whereas the german meaning of "Jedem das seine" is better translated to english with: "To each what he deserves").

I had no idea they had named an album that what with my strict Libertines don't ask don't tell policy.  The mind rebels.

Was it ever actually proved that he was injecting that sleeping woman? The photo didn't exactly show it clearly, it was just speculation on other peoples' parts that he was being an arsehole.

I know that I for one, if I was a smackhead, would not be wasting good skag on some other twat, especially an unconscious one.

As far as I know, nothing was established, I guess I'm just not inclined to give the man the benefit of the doubt.  But yeah, the girl could have been a diabetic and maybe Doherty was giving her the insulin she needed and saving her life.

Isn't all this too much attention to a rather boring idiot junky? Pretty soon he'll manage to die and he'll sainted and knighted by many, many fans and colleagues and everybody will be so sad and I'll be clawing out my eyeballs.

Aside from the other, even worse, possibility: he finds god and survives and starts preaching and writing books.

Anyway ... can you tell that this lowlife annoys me?

Or taking the needle out of her. Or, seeing as heroin has quite quick effects, she wasn't unconscious but just laaaaaiiiid back because he'd just injected smack into her voluntarily.

Amusingly, a quick google search involving "Doherty" and "The Who" reveals that Pete Doherty has been, in fact, involved with The Who.

I like to think it was an elaborate joke playing on the band's name.

That must be it then, I wasn't thinking of a specific person, or role, or anything, just that Doherty was somehow connected with The Who. Or I could have just mixed up the two names while I was young and that bit of mental short-circuiting has never come to light until now.

You guys over the pond don't know how lucky you are that you've only heard of this grade A pillock as 'someone who might have had something to do with the Who.'

What a twat.

The Kenny: Pete Doherty.

Just better: His fans, who enjoy his music which is, at it's worst, fairly innocuous.

Just worse: His detractors, who seem to be somewhat incapable of witholding attention from this man. Attention is attention regardless of whether or not it's positive or negative and the nature of his appearances in the tabloids would suggest that if suddenly he stopped recieving this negative attention, nobody would be talking about him at all.

At any rate, It's much nicer to hear about how much people enjoy his music than how much people hate him.

Thirded.

And the funny thing, now that I think about it, there is no one named Doherty in the Who.

What about people who just think he's hilarious?  I've got no strong feelings against him, but he's kind of become this kind of punch line.  There doesn't even need to be a joke.
