I am not saying it is not a moving story.  It is, it's just told to emphasise that and tug on heart-strings rather than to report the story.  It reads like a fucking urban legend.

jimbunny:
What it does, in my opinion, is provide a valuable perspective on human nature by showing an extremity that you don't find in purely socioeconomic or pathological suffering.

RedLion:
What, you'd like an in-depth story on each and every individual suffering in Darfur, in Burma, in Tibet, Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine? Sometimes people need to be reminded that there is some hope even in the darkest situation. The human brain can only handle so much. I enjoy reading a story every now and then that gives some kind of hopeful outlook on life.

No, I wasn't saying that.  I was just saying that the stories are a bit boring and don't move me much.  I can dig the whole "hope in the worst situation", it's just that I've never really lost hope in life, so I can't really relate.  Just putting in my two cents is all.

Patrick:
It's a damn shame, but the kid's lucky to even be living at all, if surviving through that shit can be called luck.
