the general rule for me is that you can wear leggings or tights with absolutely whatever you want as long as it goes far down enough to cover the crotch. every time i see a girl who breaks this rule, even if they are pretty, their vagina outline is just not sexy at all. it's actually really invasive and kind of unsettling. "hey, i don't know you and do you realize you're showing me your vagina and we're in a very public place". whatever you would call that emotion.

the first two styles i think look really awesome on you! well, they all do.
i actually really love leggings when they are worn with something long, it is mainly this that kind of freaks me out -

sometimes i see girls who really wear them just like that, as pants, with a t-shirt or something and and maybe i am a prude but some days i really cannot deal with that much crotch. it makes me feel like a pervert watching porn in public or something. it is all wrong.

Hrm, I do not do that in public! Well, besides for excercise stuff, but I think it would be silly to wear shorts over my tights for my dance class so. I usually wear heavier ones for that so they don't cling so much

I have noticed that an inordinate amount of girls at our school seem to dress this way. I'm probably only saying this because I am a little bit drunk right now, but one time I was walking behind a girl dressed as such up the stairs in Mackinnon and I could just see every single minute movement that the muscles in her ass were making and it was just awful. Like those badboys were just plastered on there. Putting those things on was a contractual commitment. She wasn't getting them off her body until they dissolved. It was the worst.

heehee michael i was just about to ask if you noticed how many girls here dress like that too

i was sitting with my friend shannon in the university centre during summer i remember, and she was eating pizza and we were talking and as we were talking a girl walked past wearing leggings like that. and shannon stopped in mid-conversation, paused a few seconds, and said "I COULD SEE HER ENTIRE VAGINA." then she got up and threw out the rest of her pizza and was really angry and we took the next bus back home.

i think she was deliberately being melodramatic but it didn't make it any less hilarious. she said what i had wanted to say for so long in all the ways i couldn't.

Some folks' jeans are just as bad as the leggings. The receptionist at my old job was always smack in the middle of cameltoe city. Denim being a less forgiving fabric than spandex, I couldn't help but flinch a little.

Things like that are probably the reason that I've been buying pants too big for years.

Man I've never really seen that many thick V-necks.

It is a style reserved for thin, flimsy sweaters!

Drillking (Andy?), seriously, your fashion is great. I guess it's because I know a girl who dresses extremely similarly, so it's not weird or outlandish to me, but the stuff you show in this thread is almost uniformly awesome.

Dear fashion thread,

I have hair, lots of it, 38 inches of it.

I think it is a teeny bit longer than the bottom of the picture. Sorry for my crappy camera. It doesn't know any better.

My question, what do I do with it? Usually it lives in a french braid, or two. But, I'm considering trying something else with it. I don't usually leave it loose, because if it's windy it will try to kill me and anyone near me. Also, I sit on it.

I sometimes wear it up on my head in various way, but I tend to spend my time in this hat:
Front: http://img244.imageshack.us/my.php?image=004ro8.jpg
Back: http://img244.imageshack.us/my.php?image=005tm9.jpg

So, anything that will fit under my hat is especially good. Also, and hatless semi-professional things might come in handy.

Oh, and anyone who suggests "cut it", no matter how stylish a cut you have in mind, I will promptly ignore you. That's jaut how it is.

I don't know if there is a style that could 1) fit under your hat and 2) not get tangly in windy weather besides what you're already doing, a braid. Cause like, obviously you have to gather the hair to a point on the bottom hemisphere of your head, and there's too much hair to do a bun at that level, and leaving it as a simple ponytail would allow it to get tangled.

Back when I had really long hair the only thing I could really do with it was twist it into a bun that looked like a cinnamon roll. It helped that I never wore hats.

I'm trying the best I can but I can't find a picture of the back of my head so this is what it looks (bottom left) like from the side.

Basically I gathered it into a ponytail at about level with my ears and twisted and twisted until it would start curving. I wound a spiral outwards, using a clip every once in a while.

I'm not very good with hair in general but there probably aren't many other posters who had a similar length. Also I think there are only so many options for styling it that are suitable for regular wear anyways.

Gotta love the butterfly clips.

I've also got this figure-eight thing with a stick through it that holds up my hair pretty good. That's how I do it for choir concerts. It looks pretty awesome, I think. I've got a concert tomorrow so I might try to get a pic of it.

I'm just thinking there has to be something better than a braid, but I don't know. Even if there was I'd probably still braid it. I'm hopeless.

By the way, Ruyi, your hair looked awesome. Mine's not that long... yet.

I had very long hair when I was really young, and yeah, awful snarly pony tails, buns, and braids are pretty much your only options. That's why I ended up saying fuck it and cutting it off- I was worried about losing that identity thing you get from being "that chick with all the hair" but I got over it once I realized that it no longer took 5 hours to dry and 2 to brush:)
I would try switching to a slight side part if you want a change, it would make less of a severe white line of scalp.

St.Germain,

Get some kung fu clothes and wear a braid. People will never mess with you because they'll be like "oh shit, she has probably grown her hair since she has been doing kung fu, lets not mess with her"

Also, with hair that long, you don't have many options. But if it's pretty thin then wearing it just down might not be too bad.

It's not overly thin, but not overly thick either. Somewhere in the middle. However, it gets really fuzzy when I leave it down all day.

Do you guys know of any good semi-prefessional up-do type things? Eventually I will need to do job interviews, et cetera. I think the french braid might be a little too casual.

Here's an idea-
"Required: one hairstick, longer than your bun is wide. Not a cheap one, either. This hairstick has to be what I politely refer to as "load-bearing."

This is a very simple style, takes roughly nine seconds, and is my own default style most days.

To do this style, you will comb through your hair to remove tangles and gather it at the nape. Twist it gently into a ropelike tail, and begin curling it into a cinnamon bun shape at the nape of your neck. It will curve on its own in a preferred direction depending on the direction of twist; let it.

The secret to this style's robustness and firmness is that you will use the innermost coil of hair as a sort of hairslide to hold the rest in place Use the following illustration as a guide:

Hold the hairstick with the tip pointing away from the center of the bun and pierce the innermost coil at one of the red dots. Then, reverse the hairstick and "scoop" under the outside margin of the bun. Slide it under the center of the bun, and then tug the innermost coil down at the other red dot, and push the hairstick until it comes out there. I've heard one user state that this held through an entire kickboxing workout. I can't make any claims about that myself, but I can say that I generally wear this style, and that I need not fiddle with it or do anything at all until I pull the stick out at night before going to bed. "

And this is what I wore today: I feel so hip with this scarf.

I think I'm going to have to try the stick in hair thing. I have a really nice red and black stick that I never use. Thanks for the idea.

As for the others...
Princess Leia: tried it, only mine was in braids first to make it behave. I don't remember how that turned out. It was fun either way.
Queen Amidala: considered it. If I could make it stay like that, I'd do it, if only to shock and confuse people.

I like that outfit, Liz! Don't know if I'm a fan of the coat, but hey, it was free, and for a free coat, it looks pretty good.

I went back to the store today to buy previously mentioned dress, but when I tried it on with pantyhose instead of jeans, it felt really comfortable but also flashed way too much thigh than what I'm comfortable with (slightly see-through) and I noticed this time that it made my ass look about twice its already pretty wide size, so no go. Guess I'll have to find something else.

Brown jeans, yes or no? I found a pair in my closet today that I had completely forgotten about and I have no idea where they came from, but they fit me decently enough (well, too long, but all pants are too long for me). I'm just not sure about brown jeans, I don't know if I've seen them on anyone else than my mom (who may be where the jeans came from?).

(Also, I feel sort of like a hypocrit posting in this thread while wearing huge, red shorts, red wool slippers and a massive red t-shirt.)

Kris, those are indeed my ridiculously cheap cute shoes. I love them and wear them all the time.

And hooray shoe holders! They are so handy, and when they only cost $10 for a giant one like that, why the hell not? Also when you have a lot of shoes they are great.

Thanks for all the compliments as well! I am glad people like my fashions.

My heels are on stacking shelves in my closet. The hanging shoe rack holds my flats, sandals, and the few pairs of sneakers that I have. However, I am running out of heel space. Oh noes!

I have at least six pairs, possibly eight. I use one. I will need to get some formal-ish shoes soon, though. Closest I have is loafers, and they don't match any of my formal-ish cloothes.

Okay, I guess I will also have to take you shoe shopping in Chicago. You better bring an empty suitcase for all the stuff I'm going to make you buy.

Man, that's a long way to go in a suitcase. I'll just take Jens home with me.

What I'm saying is that you and Kris will wrestle over Jens at Chicago-con. Mud wrestle.
