Crocs that look like Crocs are so bad.

Thanks to 'King this is the new formulation of my "Crocs are shit" hypothesis. That second last pair is a pretty bloody hot.

Still the crocs that you think of when you hear the word 'Crocs' are utterly foul. Please no-one do that to yourselves.

I like to defend crocs as a company sometimes because I used to have the second pair in dark green and they were both comfortable and pretty cute shoes for casual-ness in the summer.

but their regular ones are pretty terrible, even though they are _so useful_

Hey you great QC people,

I'm working on a philosophy essay right now (it's about the thought experiment of Mary and whether or not she learns something new when she sees a tomato), and in the course of wondering about colours I'm askin myself what people associate with different colours in different parts of the world. I was brought up in England and Germany, and here's what I was taught to associate with different colours:

yellow - jealousy
red - either love or rage
blue - sadness ("feeling blue", "having the blues")
green - hope
black - mourning

I'm not trying to get you to do my homework for me, I'm just wondering about this and you are the big:)gest international crowd I have access to. Hopefully this will be not completely uninteresting for other people. I would greatly appreciate it if a few people could say where they where brought up, and what they associate with these or different colours, whether it are the same things or something completely different!

Edit: I hope this is the right space for this, I didn't think I could really justify making a new thread for this.

Thanks! :)

That's pretty interesting, thanks for answering!

Where are you two from?

I think the thing with envy and yellow / green might be an English / German difference. Yellow is envy in Germany, but in the English-speakin world they say "green with envy", don't they?

I'm American and yes, the phrase is green with envy. It's also associated with greed, I do believe, since dollars are (predominantly) green.

Green -> envy in Norway as well, I think. Yellow I kinda associate with happiness or joy or something like that.

Yeah, Shakespeare called jealousy a green eyed monster in Othello. Dunno whether he actually started the whole trend or not, but it'd certainly help keep the phrase alive.

purple being royalty is not an emotional attachment imo. It was so because purple was the most rare and expensive dye. I'd much more associated purple tp passion.

Perhaps not, but the word 'emotion' was not included in the original query.

And responding to that query further, I think that white is a mourning color in China. I'm American, so I can't be sure. Can anyone verify?

White is equated with mourning as per Confucian customs.

I think yellow is a funeral colour in one culture but I can't for the life of me remember what it is.

Lime green (rather than dark) always seems very symbolic of life, I think that's basically obvious why that is.

I really hope birkenstocks are good for posture, because I wear mine all the time. They do kind of make your feet wider though, it's a more natural foot spread but makes it less comfortable to wear other shoes.

So this thread far too god damn long for me to read so appologies for continuing an un-popular theme, but please forgive this quick question of clarification:

Is the problem with UGG boots purely because they are UGG boots and/or the people that wear them (which, it does seem to be 99% rah-rah idiots) or is it what UGG boots are, ie boots with the fur lining.

I ask because I have some boots which are similar to UGG boots but arn't actually UGG boots.

I think you should get what I mean. I should ban myself from posting after midnight.

I associate purple with mystery and magic.

Also my fiancee, because it is her favorite color!

Lime green (rather than dark) always seems very symbolic of life, I think that's basically obvious why that is.

Really electric lime green is the color of the room backstage at a theater. Apparently this is because that color calms the nerves.

Sadly, the first thing that came to my mind was a combination of Dr. Teeth and Zoot from Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem.  In other words, the first pianist and the saxophonist from the Muppet band.

my problem with ugg boots is that they are really damn plain and i am not understanding why people would choose uggs when more attractive boots can easily be found in any color, style, material, price range, whatever.

also, the fact that they are supposed to be indoor slippers (okay, maybe they are technically made for outdoor use, but they LOOK like slippers and are worn as such by people who aren't 14 year old girls) or whatever and people wear them outside bothers me. it's like showing up to work in pajamas. just don't do it.

One of the reasons my gf loves her job is because she gets to wear scrubs, which are effectively like professional pajamas.

One of the reason I love it is because while she's there she also gets a lab coat.

i am not sure ugg boots are meant to be outdoor boots. maybe i am doing it wrong but sometimes i wear my friends' outside in the snow and man what the hell, not waterproof at all. she does not wear them anymore either for the same reason. winter boots shouldn't leave you with wet feet!
they are hell of comfortable though and i don't think the plain ones look extremely terrible. i am not opposed to the idea of buying a pair to wear as indoor slippers.

I guess the problem is not many people can afford 130+ slippers as a side-purchase to another pair of winter boots.

On the topic of guys wearing Uggs, I saw two French hipster boys in a train station wearing skinny jeans tucked into Uggs and they looked pretty damn good.

Alternately, the Uggs didn't detract enough from the two attractive, well dressed French guys for me to notice.

uggs are that expensive?? holy shit.
actually i just went to the website and they are much nicer boots than i knew about, but there is also a ridiculous amount of work involved in taking care of them and i am wondering how many of the people i see wearing uggs everywhere actually do this stuff cos it seems like kind of a a waste if they just bought them to be trendy and don't. if i had $160 boots i would not fuck around let me tell you.

i wear my shoes until they have massive holes on the bottom too cos i am lazy.
