I don't always dress like that, most of the time is a normal tshirt and a nice pair of jeans, thats the first time I have worn that stuff for... about 4 months.

Oh It would only if I was going OUT out, you know? I am not going to go "oh dear my suit hasen't been pressed and I am going to the cinema! Whatever shall I do!"

What do you think I have been trying to find for a good long while, I am a damn sight more confident than I was 2 years ago... hell I am more confident now than I was 3 months ago, but I am taking it slow, I don't want to be one of those bastards who gets a sudden boost of confidence and then becomes an insufferable tit.

Confidence is overrated. I myself am constantly paralyzed by low self esteem and lack of self confidence, but I hide it by dressing well and having strangers on the internet tell me I'm attractive.

It works really really well

Are you sure your not my temporal double and you have skipped forward a year?

Also in regards to your dress Miss Mietteissass: MAwha? I don't think anything is missing at all, unless you are going to go really 80's and wear power shoulders.

This is completely true. The dress is cute, though. What shoes are you wearing with it? What's the bottom look like?

Josefbugman, everyone on the internet is here because we aren't quite as good at doing this stuff in real life. It's a big part of why I'm trying to distance myself from the internet more and more these days, I need to get back to the real world, and this isn't helping. But yeah, I was definitely in the exact position you're in now, but a little more than a year ago. It gets better! I promise! Losing your virginity will help, if that hasn't already happened.

Nahhh, I like my virginity, you never know you have something till its gone. The majority of my time I divide between medieval stuff, helping my friends and drinking myself into a coma, I am enjoying all three! I was worse last year when I was in a new city and surrounded by people I didn't like, but I got better, hells I even managed to get a random date without looking.

Yeah, you definitely need an armful of jelly bracelets.  And some frosted pink lipstick.  And you couldn't go wrong with a fake mole drawn on with eyeliner.  It makes me really sad that I am old enough to have actually done these things in the 80s...

I really don't like those shoes at all. I don't like the white-ish color, I don't like how it matches with the black, I don't like the toe, I don't like how it looks in the light, or how it reflects the light. And yet, they still look good.

Dear Fashion Thread,

Should I wear flats and a skirt on a first date?

If colors are important:
top = blue shirt over yellow lacy cami
Bottom = black skirt, gray tights, yellow and gray flats.

I kinda want to wear this outfit because I feel like its a pretty subtle way to show off my awesome octopus. But I also want this date to go awesomely well, and I am worried this outfit is too much.

Help, Fashionistas! Help!

Emaline that is an excellent first date outfit. I know every time I have had a first date I have gone with a dress shirt and nice shoes- and usually reverted back to tee and sneakers by the second- As this thread has shown before, you feel more confident in nice clothes, and that is important for a first date.

I can't wear short running shorts because my junk will fall out of them. That is not good when skateboarding. So I guess just regular socks then?

Also, fashion thread, I kinda want to start wearing those really nice men's dress shoe, in my size, of course. I know it's kinda dyke, but I actually think it looks pretty cool. Like particular ones that look like this:

Also, maybe a pair of mens (style) loafers, with like cuffed/rolls up jeans and no socks. Yeeaahhhh.

Okay, I am bring this back (because I totally missed it the first time), but man-oh-man did I get into loafers pretty big. I think part of it must have been just paying homage to old men who really know how to dress themselves. Word of caution, though, the no-socks look is just eye-trickery; I am pretty sure most people wear socks that end before the ankle, after the heel.

Also, I've noticed a few girls wearing boat shoes, generally not overtly feminine or masculine. I really dug the look, especially when it veered just a little into the masculine. Any idea where I can snag a pair?

I suppose zappos is rather expensive compared to the stuff at payless, but for a dude it's pretty much a go-to website.

I am no dude, but actually a lady; and I like to try shoes on before I buy them because I have heel problems in my right foot, which can mess up my whole posture if I am not careful and/or thoughtful about what I put on my feet.

I figured you were a lady when you said that you were snagging fashion ideas off of other women in the first place. I was just commenting due to what Pen said; in my experience, men's shoes generally aren't as expensive as women's shoes, so zappos's prices aren't really an issue for me when shopping. I suspect it has to do with the marketing and engineered cultural expectations. If advertisements are to be believed, men are supposed to shoot straight for the high status name brand while women should own a veritable fleet of shoes to go with their outfits. There just isn't really any incentive to offer guys cheap shoes whereas I could drive down to a payless right now and find racks of $15 wedges if I felt like it.

Anyway though, yeah, being able to try on an array of different sizes immediately is an advantage, particularly if you have an odd foot. My feet however are pretty typical, so zappos' excellent shipping and return policies are enough to keep me happy.

So this is probably wishful thinking on my behalf but in a couple of months it is going to start getting cool again. My university gets really really cold and windy and I walking between classes doesn't help. Last year I spent a lot of time wearing jeans, a tshirt and a long sleeve shirt underneath. Colder days, add a scarf, fingerless gloves (so I could still actually do things), and a big coat. I also did the mini skirt and cute stockings + boots thing too, which I'd probably like to do more of this year because there are so many nice socks/stockings on sockdreams.

If I wanted to wear a super cute pair of knee high socks, what would I pair it with? I figured the skirt can't really be too tight because that'd look silly, and I don't want to look like those crazy thirteen year old "emo kids" either. I want it to be cute and girly but still relatively practical so I do not freeze.

Recently, I acquired a black pinstripe vest for a formal event. I personally think it is extremely awesome and wore it with pride. However, ever since that night it has hung sadly in my closet. Any suggestions on casual wear/outfits that would allow me to put it to good use?

I know a lot of people here like vests. And that's cool okay, you can like them. Until you have to wear one that doesn't fit you. And you have to wear it for 10 months. It makes you look like you are a banquet server if you can't pull it off correctly.

Why would you have to wear a vest for 10 months? I mean, the only reason I can think of is if you were, like, a banquet server or something...

Oddly enough it was the uniform for the front desk at the hotel I worked at. Because they were cheap they didn't have one that fit me and wouldn't order new uniforms. As far as I know, right now there is only one person working at that hotel that wears the actual uniform. And he works overnights. I am so very glad that I left that place.

Dear god on a crutch, how much do suits cost!

I thought that I might be able to get a goodish suit jacket for around £30 and what do I find? In the sales the cheapest one I could find cost £60, Sixty bloody pounds for a jacket!

Just wondering if the same is true for America or wether it is possible to find a jacket for slightly cheaper than something you have to auction your own kidney's for.

H&M, also if you think 60 pounds is expensive for a jacket you should see what a good one costs.

I got my coat at an outlet and I lurves it. I'm sure you could find a store like that over yonder, because I'm sure with the shipping costs, you'd basically be paying the same anyways. Besides, decent coats tend to be around the same price here anyways.
