Ok, I will keep these things in mind when looking for real clothes.

Also, I do own skirts, several of them. I just don't wear them because they are impractical.

I've begun a list of things I need, and I began to wonder something. Can someone please tell me the purpose of high heels, and why I need them? If I'm going to get shoes I don't like, I need to know what to do with them once I have them.

i'm part of the ladies-who-look-like-14-year-old-boys club too. it's all good though, i don't really bother at all anymore with trying to grow out my hair or dressing feminine cos i think i look better as a boy than as a girl anyway. androgeny is sexy!

I am really glad this isn't the 50s.

I do not like wearing heels very often, so the only time I wear them is for fancy occasions (like weddings) and on job interviews. Sometimes when I'm going out, but usually not. If you honestly don't want to buy heels, don't. Go for flats.

I don't get why people are all hating on skirts. I love skirts! The only pants I actually use are jogging pants for excersising (sp?). It's just so much nicer and more comfortable to wear skirts than pants, I think. And I tend to combine skirts with more masculine aspects such as vintage men's suit jackets and chunky boots.

Also - screw you, shoe snobs! I never coordinate my shoes to my outfit, because I have really big feet so only men's shoes fit me. So I wear my shoes in periods (like, I'll wear a certain pair of boots for two months, then switch to another pair) and just put on whatever I have standing there when I go outside.

I'd like to wear nice shoes, and if I had smaller feet I would do more interesting things with my footwear - but right now I can't, and I don't think it ruins my whole outfit either. I never notice what shoes other people are wearing.

Androgyny is only awesome if you can pull it off. It sucks if you like that style but y'know, really obviously are shaped super girly, then you just look silly trying to wear boy style things.

damn you shapeless girls, I am so jealous.

Whatever, aside from all the racism and sexism the 50's were totally the coolest decade, with the possible exception of the roaring 20's.

Looking like a lady requires one thing:

1) Wearing women's clothing (just make sure it fits well).

So all I have to do is wear a size 14 dress and I'll look like a lady?

Schweet.

Is 14 even a measurement for anything, or just a number? From what I understand, being a size two just gets women to buy more clothes and exercise extensively to achieve the pseudo-reality of anorexic beauty.

It is a number that refers to a measurement, just like S, M, L, and so on refer to sizes/measurements.

Khar, I wear a size 14, you can borrow one of my dresses.

Also, the sizings change between countries. I wear a size 8-10 here, but that is like, 4-6 or something in America. Also, a size 8 might fit me in one brand, but I might need a size 10 in a different brand, or a size 6 in another, which makes it even more annoying.

So, uh, the numbers for sizings are supposed to be for certain measurements, but the fact that they are nuts makes them not as useful as they could be.

You obviously have never worn a skirt. Now if you mean crotch flashing, there is a simple solution called leggings and/or tights. My rule is if they are opaque, who gives a shit, because you can't see anything anyway. Also, with knee length or longer skirts, you don't have this problem. Skirts themselves, like pants, vary in degrees of comfort just like pants, except you get more of a breeze.

Both sexes pull that off one hell of a lot better then the other way round.

not all of them! i look and feel pretty dang ridiculous in makeup and girly clothing, and i know some pretty good looking dudes and ladies who dress really well right now and would also probably look equally ridiculous wearing whatever clothing people of their gender are typically supposed to wear. personally i think people are at their most attractive when they wear what they feel comfortable in, but that's just me.
also, to anyone who thinks guys can't pull off looking feminine: go to a drag show. they're really fun and i guarantee you will be very, very impressed.

My only problem with skirts is finding shoes that really work with them. Somehow its so much more complicated than with pants, so I have about 12 skirts I very very rarely wear.

I agree completely. You never know when you might need to climb a tree or hop a fence, and skirts just limit your options for adventuring. It's like how I own only one pair of shoes that are not tree/fence compatible. Blast my tomboyish upbringing.
