man killed at olympics

--- Quote from: Trollstormur on 10 Aug 2008, 10:19 ---but seriously, the chinese are very wary of outsiders. I'm not at all surprised there was an event like this. I remember reading a story by a white chinese national who was attending a festival with his half-chinese daughter, and there was a group of people yelling 'get out foreigner, we don't want you here this is our festival'
--- End quote ---
Maybe, but that article Vendetagainst linked says, "The BBC's Quentin Sommerville says murders, especially targeting foreigners, are very rare in China."
--- Quote ---i mean this same kinda shit happens everywhere and people just love to cut loose and fuck up someone's day at the olympics. I wonder if we could get it internationally recognised as a psychological ailment.
--- End quote ---
Yeah, seriously. If we could 51 / 50 for xenophobia, half the world would be locked up in mental hospitals (and the rest of us would be probably be happier for it). Interestingly, though Googling "tourist murdered" comes up with a lot of articles discussing this recent event, there are a lot of results for other places, too: Israeli tourist murdered, Canadian tourist murdered, Scottish tourist murdered, British tourist murdered, etc. I'm a little bit afraid that people are going to hear this and pull that reactionary "those crazy Chinese" bullshit... but the truth is, irrational, murderous fear of outsiders is an international human problem. A terrifying human problem.
