One Album For Every Year You Are Alive
theoryC:
1989 - 1991 didn't listen to anything lol
1992 - Pat Metheny - Secret Story
1993 - :|
1994 - Portishead - Dummy
1995 - Radiohead - The Bends Hate to put this here knowing there'll be plenty of Radiohead later on my list, but there wasn't much else this year for me.
1996 - Newsboys - Take Me To Your Leader Top notch catchy pop, with a few classics.
1997 - Radiohead - OK Computer Best album I've heard.
1998 - Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over the Sea :/
1999 - Sigur Ros - Agætis Byrjun One of the most memorable albums I've heard, and one of the most gorgeous.
2000 - Radiohead - Kid A One of the best albums of the decade thus far.
2001 - Bjork - Vespertine Her best work.
2002 - Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Not many other choices.
2003 - Radiohead - Hail to the Theif A fucking awesome album, and the album that made me a RH fan. Absolution trails not far behind it.
2004 - The Arcade Fire - Funeral Can't go wrong with this in an otherwise blah year.
2005 - Mew - And the Glass Handed Kites This album narrowly beats Frances The Mute, Alligator, Illinois, and Z, which says a hell of a lot.
2006 - Mute Math - Mute Math If I could define my favorite genre of music, Mute Math would probably come the closest to fitting that definition. Great pop/rock, with lots of organic electronics, experimentation and glimpses of unexpected influences.
2007 - The National - Boxer My second favorite album ever, behind OKC.
2008 - Have A Nice Life - Deathconsciousness I don't listen to this album that much, and it's not perfect, but I still feel it's the most notable album of the year so far.

Though you'd need to hit up eBay to find the Statement single.

2007 - Deerhoof - Friend Opportunity
2006 - The Knife - Silent Shout
2005 - Boris - Pink
2004 - 65daysofstatic - The Fall of Math

1996 - Dirty Three - Horse Stories
1995 - PJ Harvey - To Bring You My Love
1994 - Portishead - Dummy
1993 - Melvins - Houdini
Can we agree that 1993 was a pretty shitty year for popular music? I've gone through my collection and I've gone through everybody elses choices here for this year, and nothing gets me really excited. This was a serviceable album at least.
1992 - Sonic Youth - Dirty
Though PJ Harvey's Rid of Me would have been a fine pick too, which I listened more to back then.
1991 - My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Absolutely hopeless to pick. Between MBV, Slint, my favorite Melvins album, Mr. Bungle's self titled... just to mention the first to come to mind.
1990 - Sonic Youth - Goo
Not a big fan of this year either.
1989 - Pixies - Dolittle
1988 - Pixies - Surfer Rosa
1987 - Pixies - Come On Pilgrim
I'm a little tired of answering Pixies to these questions...
1986 - Depeche Mode - Black Celebration
1985 - Tom Waits - Rain Dogs
1984 - The Smiths - The Smiths
1983 - Tom Waits - Swordfishtrombones
1982 - Die Haut & Nick Cave - Burnin' the Ice
I'm sure there was something better released that year, but it's not in my music collection.

1980 - Joy Division - Closer
1979 - The Clash - London Calling
