Everything old is new
« on: 12 Dec 2009, 10:25 »

I vaguely remember a thread like this a while back, but I can't seem to find it.  Anyway, with Capcom's announcement yesterday that they will not be bringing Rival Schools to PSN or XBL, what old games do you wish they would bring to PSN, XBL, and what ever they the Wii calls it's network?

Also, what games are you happy that they did bring over?

I would love to be able to play Battletoads & Double Dragon: The Ultimate Team from the NES again.  Me and my cousin used to play this every time I visited, it was so much fun

See I don't want rereleases, I want remakes. I can play older games just fine, I want them to be updated to modern standards.

Give me River City Ransom Remake dammit.

Please no. I mean older games going back to, what, 12 or 13 years ago, were pretty much all about gameplay. You can't have a major release like that these days. Games have to be cinematic, and thus need to have ill-sketched characters where none would have sufficed, meager stories, a slapped-on romance. I want to play Contra, not Gears of War: Contra.

Here's what happened the last time they put in 3d cut scenes into a Contra game.

I mean, hey, I have some sympathy for Ozy's position, but I just don't trust a lot of developers to do it right these days. Then again, I actually consider the time my brother and I rented Shattered Soldier to probably be one of the best weekends of my life. Just skip the first 3 minutes of the clip because it's a pretty boring mini-boss when done right, but rest is pretty neat.  Never mind that last bit; it took me a sec, but I found my my favorite stage.

Evidence in my favor:

Ultimate Ghosts 'n' Goblins
Mega Man: Powered Up
Bionic Commando: Rearmed
REmake
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
MGS: Twin Snakes
Metroid: Zero Mission
Pokemon: FireRed & LeafGreen

Video game remakes are good.

Honestly there are very few games where I would rather play the original over the remake. Mega Man X vs. Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X comes to mind, but MMMHX is a pretty good game that just suffers from some crippling slowdown and such where the original didn't even have any. It was too graphically ambitious for its platform and MMX is a fantastic game in its own right with gameplay that actually still feels fairly modern.

What did they do to improve FireRed and LeafGreen?

They're remakes of Red and Blue.

I know that. How are they better than the originals?

Also I still have the remake of Ocarina of Time on Gamecube.  It's pretty good.

They just added all the cool new stuff from Silver/Gold and Ruby/Emerald and updated the graphics. It's just...better. Generally sequels add improvements to the gameplay and such of a game and when you add them back into the original, you get a great game made better.

Also Master Quest is more of a remix than a remake.

Still pissed off. When I got my gamecube I was supposed to get Master Quest with it but they never sent it and I called up and they said they'd send it but it never came and when I called again they said that supplies were limited and they were OUT and I was so pissed off and arrrrrrrrgh

I hate it when that happens and I hate run on sentences and I hate overly negative people
