That's not what they look like, that's the way Jeph draws them.
That sentence makes no sense whatever, but you knew what I meant, right? We think of a character as being the same person even when Jeph makes huge changes in his art.

Given the age of that thread, I'm pretty sure the couch Jeph mentioned was Marten's.
Only two characters have ever been mentioned as potential marriage partners, and his couch was one of them (#635). Three people from the cast (Faye, Hannelore, and Marten) have slept with the couch.
Maybe while Raven thinks she is the Chessmaster, the couch is secretly manipulating everyone behind the scenes for its own purposes. Which will win, the shrewdness of Raven or the sexiness of the couch?

What makes all of that really creepy is that Pintsize keeps his condoms in the couch.
