It's definitely a headphone album.

I've got Sunn 0)))'s "Big Church" stuck in my head.  :psyduck:

Emily Wells - Symphony Two and the Click Boom Boom

Really, this song is just too amazing. Definitely on the top ten list of my favourite songs ever. Not sure what the other nine are, though.

I've been listening to two Mountain Goats albums a night over the past few days. Right now it's The Sunset Tree, to be followed by We Shall All Be Healed.

I remember when I did this. I just kind of assume everyone who has listened to the Mountain Goats has done this.

Listening to all of Dave House's albums.  He's the guitarist in Pacer and used to play bass in The Steal.  Dude's solo stuff sounds like a cross between Frank Turner and Jets to Brazil, is completely fucking awesome, and is on offer on the Banquet Records website 3-for-the-price-of-1, hence why I've got them all, MONTHS after I really SHOULD have bought them!

My own. Band's. Fucking. Demo.

God I sicken myself sometimes

Well, today's entry isn't much better on the "I'm a vain douchebag" front, 'cause now I'm listening to "Beer Today" by Junkie Blood, which is on their EP Wish You Were Beer, and I'm the sound engineer and assistant producer of this record. In my defense, the record is really fucking good. I can't take credit for the fact that their band is solid as fuck, so this is how I justify doing what I'm doing.

From an old version of that thread:
Code: [Select]
http://www.M/F.com/file/jnmjygyyhtm/Purcell%20-%20Dido%20%26%20Aeneas.zipThis is a live recording of an amateur performance; but once you accept the lack of polish, you'll find much to enjoy.

My first wife was a singer and singing teacher.  In the late 1980s we started an opera group as a medium for her pupils, and others; she was musical director, and I sang a mediocre bass part while being chairman, librarian, editor (sometimes), sound engineer (for effects, when required, as well as recording), repetiteur (at times), and general dogsbody.  We put on the operas fully staged and with real orchestras, for several nights; it flourished for about ten years.

Dido was done as a double bill with Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana; Dido (not Cav!) was accompanied by just a string quartet and harpsichord (which I tuned, to add to my duties).  These performances were the hardest for me, as I was having radiotherapy (for cancer) up to just a few days before the performances (there's a photo of me looking drawn and gray backstage of this performance in the photo thread).

"Miracle Man" - Elvis Costello

One of my favorite songs on My Aim Is True. I'd like to sing it for a few people I know; they probably wouldn't catch on to the subtlety though. Still, a great jam on a great album. Lots of "man, fuck you" songs on here, haha.

Soupy's vocals are more aggressive and less whiny, which means the one thing I wasn't into from their previous album has been fixed.  Good shit!

Wagner - Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg

Currently listening to the recording conducted by Rafael Kubelik (4 1/2 hours long), to compare it with that by Goodall (in English, runs 5 hours) which I listened to yesterday.  The Goodall recording is from a long-lost BBC tape of a broadcast in 1968, just a couple of months before I joined the Beeb - the tape has clearly been badly stored, and I would be seriously embarrassed to issue something with so many faults (dropouts, and phasing effects caused by tape weave, mainly); I think it has only been allowed out to silence people demanding this specific "classic" performance.  The Kubelik was recorded by DGG in 1967, but release was blocked by contractual issues, and it was only made available through another company recently - it is now considered the best account of the work, and is certainly better than the Goodall, as well as being in incomparably better sound.
