Listening to the soundtrack for Downtown 81. I got all excited for it to start because the first song's by Gray, Jean-Michel Basquiat's short lived band, but all it turned out to be was a minute long intro to the album. Oh Well. Cool no wave shit, and there's another Gray song a bit less than halfway through.

My Latest Novel - Wolves

I finally went back to find this debut album after hearing Deaths and Entrances which came out last year and it is not even close to being as good as Deaths and Entrances. There are a couple of good tracks but their are also some absolutely crap ones too like The Job Mr. Kurtz Done which is a track where the lyrics are spoken then sung line by line; it is terrible.

I'm also listening to this (^) now. It upsets me when bands release special tracks for only certain editions of albums/eps/whatevers. (I understand why they do it, but it still bothers me). Cause now I already have this EP, but I really want this bonus track cover. I love A Wilhelm Scream, but I don't want to rebuy the whole EP. It was just like this on Career Suicide with those two bonus Australian tracks--I ended up getting a myspace rip of one, and a shitty quality of the other.

well i remember back when their forum was working, they were talking of doing a compilation of all the smackin' isaiah stuff, so i daresay the AWS bonus tracks/diver ep etc. will be thrown on that too.

i didn't even know about "your love" - i just ordered the australian version from shock records because it's the only CD version available and i don't do vinyl. was a nice surprise admittedly!

I know that there's a website somewhere that released a bunch of music for free download from a ton of indie New Bedford bands. Smackin' Isaiah (and Koen) were there, and I got a lot of their older stuff from that site. I got their early demos (The Big Fall, Give Girls More Beer, Gets Eaten Alive, their portion of 6:6:6, and I think Champagne of Bands was there too) from there, but they're sound back then was a bit different from where it is now. I think it was around The Way to a Girl's Heart Is through Her Boyfriend's Stomach is where they started being truly amazing (altho that earlier stuff does still have it's appeal).

Either way, I would still love to see a giant compilation come out from that older stuff.

Also, I'm now listening to Skid Rock from A Wilhelm Scream (EP) because the bass is amazing

Listening to The Instrument Soundtrack by Fugazi. I really love this album, it's so bizarrely beautiful. It seems to be a further extension of the experimental, dub-y direction they took with Red Medicine and End Hits.

can't really get into the instrument soundtrack, but i still think "end hits" is up there in their top 3 albums. i can't believe it always seems to get billed as their "low point."

Been seriously addicted to the new Liars and Beach House albums lately. The former is a noisy, scuzzy masterpiece, their best yet (which is saying a lot considering how good Drums Not Dead was) and the latter is beautiful, shimmery pop, also their best. I think I listened to "Walk in the Park" a good half dozen times already today.
