I am eagerly awaiting the disappointment that is sure to follow when I find out that these acts are not playing sideshows: Neil Young, The Grates, Cut Copy and I suppose the Living End could be fun too.

That's a fairly bland lineup.

um... the neil young side show has been and gone and sold out in the first hour or so

i've really never been the biggest neil young fan and really only feel compelled to watch as one of those "before i die" bands and out side of that the only thing i really feel like watching are the living end which you can see every 3 months for alot cheaper anyway

MMJ and TVotR both put on good shows, but I can't get too excited about anyone else on there.

Except for in Perth (where he lives), where it never existed in the the first place.

I am kind of stoked about this lineup.

Not because I think it is good, but because it means that this is approx. $110 I can spend on one of the multitude of other totally rad festivals happening this summer.

I would like to see Neil Young, but not that much, and honestly I don't think he'd be that great in the BDO kind if atmosphere

It took me a few moments to realise you meant McTaggart, and not Neil Young. My mind, it was boggled!

Funny, innit? For decades you couldn't get Neil Young to come to Australia for love nor money. Now it seems like you can hardly keep him away!

Man he was outside my house going through my rubbish the other night.

Also, I probably will not go to this big day out.

I might go cause I heard Iron Maiden are headlining

PS Are you honestly surprised by a mediocre BDO lineup? Come on it has been years now since there has been a lineup worth dropping whatever they're asking nowadays.

Hey, this year's lineup was fairly decent. Bjork, Arcade Fire, Battles (!) and LCD Soundsystem.
I'm not sure about that '09 list though. My Morning Jacket are great, and I don't mind some of TVOTR's stuff, but is it worth the $110+ and braving the rotten heat of a Perth February? Probably not.

You're only saying that because you've never had a summer Christmas.

There are no songs entitled "Summer Wonderland", "Green Christmas", "Let It Not Snow, Let It Not Snow, Let It Not Snow", "In-Line Sleigh Ride", or "Sunny the Snowman" so your point is moot.

Man, don't even make me turn this into a debate about American cultural imperialism. Don't even make me!

On Christmas day you want to sit outside on the veranda and have breakfast in your pyjamas while the wind blows the scent of jasmine towards you, and then you want to lazily finish off your coffee, go inside, have a shower, open a few presents, then have Christmas lunch followed by a siesta in the warm sun, then you want to go down to the beach and play beach cricket with your family, and then when it starts getting dark around seven or eight o'clock in the evening you want to finish your Christmas day back on the veranda, drinking cold beer and gin & tonics. But you can't, because your Christmas is in the middle of winter.

And still we have to listen to the crappy Christmas carols that go on and on about it. Gotta kind of feel sorry for the guys in santa suits that still have to dress like it's the arctic though.

That lineup seems far from great (IMO), but I've not been that inspired to go to BDO for a long time anyway. St Jerome's Laneway Fest, on the other hand..... also, David_Dovey - isn't it a fair bit above $110 these days?

It has been years now since there has been a lineup worth dropping whatever they're asking nowadays.

It is really frustrating to me because not only would I have to pay the exhorbitant price they are asking in the first place unless I am really lucky and their site doesn't fucking crash constantly at the midnight release it will sell out completely before I hit "buy" at the Ticketmaster website at 9am and I'll have to pay $200-300 a ticket on ebay to watch maybe two bands I like because they might not play side-shows.

FUCK YOU, OVERPRICED & OVERHYPED FESTIVALS FULL OF BOGANS

I agree with Phaedra- the 2008 lineup was pretty great. I went and had fun, despite the best efforts of many, many dickheads in the crowd.
