Here's an idea for a cool art
« on: 24 Sep 2008, 22:03 »

I've seen this done before, but never something of the scale I want to do it, I think...

So here's my idea. We get a bunch of us forumers to create a piece of art on like a paper bag, or something that we can send all over the world. And we do just that, we send these (items here) all over to each other and draw on them or write, whatever. Then we put them all up.

or

I send a bunch of (items here) to the people on the forums and they send them back after doing their artistry on them. Then I make a slideshow/collage of them. It would make my walls much more lively.

What do you think? would you? Am I just totally insane?

And don't think if you're not in the US you wouldn't get one, if you wanted one, I'd find a way to send you the item in question.

I think it's a good idea.

I've done several with larger scrapbooks. Everyone started their own page, altered others, and generally had fun. By the time I received it, I think there were about fifty pages. Unfortunately, one person received it, never returned it, and disappeared altogether. It's just one of the risks that you take, I guess.

My brother got one where you put in a picture of whatever, into a photoalbum, but it was pretty small, it was cute though. There were a lot of beautiful and funny pictures in it.

That's why I was leaning toward the latter idea, where I send a bunch of an item out and see how many I get back, rather than hoping that one or two items will make it around to everyone.

Yeah, I could totally see that working. Like that one gnome that has traveled all over the world (not the roaming gnome,) that was stolen from some lady's yard.

Check out www.1001journals.com, that's kind of the same idea, though it's more of a traveling journal project than a sending out multiple things project. Personally, I like the traveling idea more than the multiple things idea, so that everyone can get to look at the book/art in the flesh, and there's a chronology of where it's been. If you limited it to forum members you know that would decrease the risk that it would get lost, and if it DOES get lost you can put an SASE in an inside pocket so that some good samaritan might return it to you. That's what I do with my Moleskines (though I haven't lost one yet). And you can register it on that site so that others can see it too. I would be up for participating in this, totally.

My problem with having just one thing is that it makes it harder at the end to have a collage of the art. It'd just be a gallery. But it may be quicker.

The other reason that I'm hesitant with one thing is that it takes a lot longer for all the people to get it, rather than just each getting their own and sending it back, they might have to wait months just to get the thing, and then who knows when inspiration will strike. Maybe I'll do both.

You know what would be awesome? If everybody who was going to the Chicago meet up made a scrapbook page, and we we got there, we put it all together and sent it to Jeph and Cristi.

*cough*it'd could even be the boards wedding present to them. which is only a slightly lame weird idea.*cough*

Newgrounds did something similar, but one person mailed out empty sketchbook pages. It cost about $200 in the end; $177 of which was postage and shipping.

It would probably be easier (and more cost-effective) to specify a size, and then have everyone cut their own pages out of paper or poster board, do both sides, and mail it in to be put together.

Yeah, I'd seen that, thats sort of where I got the idea from. I wanted to send the stuff out because then it would be more of a commitment for people. I think it would also make it more personal.
