To be honest, I'm not a big fan of the speechbubbles in today's comic. To me they look sloppier and misplaced.

Just my opinion though - what do you think of them?

The old ones were a bit better imo. Symmetry ftw.

Did not care much for the new speech bubbles. Somehow they do not seem to gel with the rest of the comic.

Although I did have to press "previous" to actually work out what the old bubbles looked like, I have decided that I'm definitely a bigger fan of them. The new ones look a bit rough and quickly drawn, whereas the old ones were straight and lovely.

The old ones were more aesthetically pleasing to me, much more crisp.

They're bubbles, for speech. I wish I had them irl.

Like the new ones, like the old ones, so whichever is fine with me.

I much prefer the old speech bubbles. These look like they were done on the fly.

I think the new speech bubbles have promise, we just need to give Jeph a little time to practice them. The idea really is better, but it'll take a bit of practice before the new bubbles can achieve that 'crisp'ness everyone's looking for. I say, give them a trial run before deciding the old ones were undoubtedly better.

The new bubbles look more amateurish, so unless that is what Jeph was going for, I think he should switch back to the old style.

I like them, but I liked the old ones too.

I think the new ones looked better in 1246 than in this comic, though.

QC's artwork is closer to life than that of many other comics. Those more cartoon-y comics can use these kind of speech bubbles because of that cartoon look. It fits the imperfections of the art. The fact that QC is so well done kinda requires you to use those  symmetrical bubbles.

I definately like the old ones. Again, they're drawn much cleaner and crisper. Also they don't take up excess space that detract from the colors.

I like the old speech bubbles better too, mostly for reasons of anti-aliasing.  The new lines are slanted (not horizontal) so anti-aliasing has to be used to make them look smooth.  This leads to a much messier look than the old ones, where only the corners had that problem.

It's certainly a minor issue though, and I doubt I would have noticed it had it not been pointed out to me.  I am sure I'll stop noticing it again by the end of the week.

Nah, liked the old, concrete ones better. This is indeed a bit chaotic looking.

I have strong distaste for the new bubbles for many of the same reasons everyone else has listed. I prefer smoother boxes over rough ovals.

I actually like the new bubbles better. Because the comic itself is very geometrical, it needs some organic shapes to make it look less stiff, and that's where the new boxes come in. The old speech bubbles blended too much in with the background architecture, but the new ones stand out in a good way, so the overall impression is easier on the eye at the same time as it looks more laid back and balanced.

I'm gonna dogpile on the ME TOO pile in saying, I don't like the new speech bubbles. They look more amateurish. I prefer the old curvilinear speech bubbles. I dunno, the old style is just more QC's style.

Not a fan, sorry. Prefer the old ones. I've always liked that your speech bubbles looked different and cleaner than the ones I was used to  seeing. Hope you see this as a validation of what you've been doing all along instead of a criticism, because that's how I mean it.  :-)

Meh, I like the new ones, probably for the same reason I dislike the 'comic sans' font. Anything that feels 'stock' to me just kinda irks me, and rounded rectangle speech bubbles fit right into that category.

...My brain screams CAD when I see comic sans.

Old bubbles looked way more professional to me. I prefer them to the new ones, though I'm not sure whether it's because I got used to them or truly out of artistic reason.
I think, let's give it a week and have another look at them then.

I can't say I liked anything about the speech bubbles. They do seem sloppier than the old bubbles. I vote for old bubbles.

I definitely like the old speech bubbles better. They make the overall look of the comic neater and more organized. It's easier to pay attention to the drawing with the old speech bubbles.

I prefer the old ones. I mean, it's not a deal-breaker for me or anything, and I'm sure if jeph decides to stick with these it won't ruin my enjoyment of the strip- but I think the old ones go better with his current style.

Although I do like the clean look of the old ones I can see where there new ones would lend to showing more of the background art as opposed to the boxy shape of the old ones that use a bit more real estate and leave more white space.

i do see what he is saying but i do like the old one better; just because i was more balanced to me and when u have a speech bubble cover over a other one for just one think to interrupted what on character is saying the more box make much more sense to me.

I think Jeph should have waited a week before telling us he tried new speech bubbles to see who noticed. I wouldn't have. :-)

That said, much like many other posters here, after comparing old and new, I prefer old.

I think the new ones looked better in 1246 than in this comic, though.

I agree.  Those are the best of the three.  They're closer to the old than new, but still have a little "flair".  However, between 1245 and 1246, definitely old (1245).

So far, I like the old ones better. But I think that once Jeph has a little more practice with the new ones, they could end up looking very nice.
