A Very Cool Engagement Story
Inlander:
Hey, let's see if we can make it a few days without side-tracking a thread into trying to figure out ways to get into Liz's pants!
Also, sorry to harsh everyone's buzz, but I've held out as long as I can and now I gotta say that I think asking someone to marry you in a public setting, in front of hundreds of people, such that there's an incredible amount of pressure on the person you're asking to say "yes", is just straight-out a dick move. I mean, I'm sure in this particular case the woman would've said yes anyway, and everyone who was there feels all warm and fuzzy and everything, but still. Don't pull a dick move!
imagist42:
I can see that. But this, everyone had been expecting it for like, years or something? So I mean, it was pretty fairly obvious that she was going to say yes and the dude was just trying to make the moment extra special for her.
...'course, the other problem with that move is that now there will be these high expectations for the rest of their relationship! Like, how's he going to top that for their first anniversary?
jimbunny:
Performance anxiety!

They're actually going to try to raise the 20,000$ or so needed to book Gogol for their wedding. That, or convince Faith No More to reunite for it, one or the other.

Harry, agreeing to marry someone is not a binding verbal contract. You still have plenty of time to leg it and then you get the bonus of breaking the dudes heart even more and that will learn him for putting you in that awkward situation in the first place.
