Turns out that cryptographic chart contains is meant to decode a special symbol on every level which reveals a cheat which gives you... 5 power nodes. Not worth it.

They officially announced the sequel today and Isaac Clarke is the protagonist in it as well, so I'm thinking the Wikipedia article is accurate

No, he definitely takes off his helmet first. I'm sure it wold be quite easy to say it was a hallucination, but that is definitely an inaccurate description of the ending.
