Looking for some music to listen to.

Which is a nice sentiment, but it's also a bit naive. Like it or not, we live in a society in which the means to live in even basic comfort relies to an overwhelming extent on having enough money to pay for food, shelter, electricity, etc. This applies to musicians as much as anyone else. Now, I'd assume that most musicians are not professional musicians. I expect the vast majority have "day jobs" from which they derive their income. But I'd also assume that the more time they have to work at those day jobs, the less time they're able to devote to their music-making. So if a musician's trying to make a bit of money off his or her music, and I'm in a position to give that musician money for his or her music, but I choose not to, because "hey, it's available here for free download" - then, well, I'm just out-and-out dicking that musician.

If you've got no money, and I mean really got no money, like you're struggling just to keep yourself fed, then by all means get your music for free, however you can get it. I'm sure no-one reasonable would begrudge you of that. But if you've got the cash to spare, then why not send some of it in the direction of whoever provides the music that makes your life just a bit more enjoyable?

yeah okay.
but would he honestly be happy to just make music and not expect anything in return?
if he is, then hey that's awesome. but i doubt that all musicians feel the same way.

I also completely agree with this sentiment. If you have the means to buy music you should do that too! I think a mix of the two is the best way to go about acquiring music.

Which is why I bought Shane's album you cunts.

how would you feel if all of us downloaded your music and never bothered to buy your ep?
just wondering.

It doesn't really make a difference to me, Anna. I never set out to make money, I just wanted to make some teeth-rattling noise. This is part of the reason the EP I'm working on right now is going to be a free download. I know a lot of bands ARE out there trying to earn a living. I do try to support bands, but it's mostly in the form of going to see them live and buying t-shirts and other merch.

(Dear bands, put your stuff out on vinyl more and I will buy more of your music)

(Dear Emporer Jones, AmAnSet repressings please?)
