Rattling subs. Any suggestions on songs?
« on: 20 Oct 2008, 06:49 »

I'm looking for songs with a lot of bass to test out my subs. I'd prefer if you could suggest some stuff other than rap. I'm looking for some stuff to put my friend's car's system through its paces for him so he can put down the souljaboy cd.

Yeah punctuation sure is pretty pretentious. Look how fucking pretentious this post is, all with two periods and a comma.

Hmm anything but rap? Guess it depends what your into. I was going to suggest the humpy dance by digital underground but oh wait thats rap, damn. How about some Red Hot Chili Peppers? Most if not some of their stuff features some form of heavy melodic bass work.

Dubstep.

Anything by Benga, The Bug, Kode9, Skream or other dubstep artists should put any good sub through its paces.

We nearly destroyed my friend's system once by blasting Sunn O))). Try the White 2 album. The first chord of "Hello)))ween" quite literally bounced his car two inches off the ground.

If I had rockin' bass, I'd use it for good, never evil.

There's also that one Burial song. "Etched Headplate." My roommate used to see how far away we could feel the weird bass vibrations in that song, and I think our best was "20 feet away, through two closed doors."

A lot of Apparat is really good stuff for testing sound systems. And I don't just mean for bass power, I mean the full range of highs and mids, too.

Yeah, I guess Burial too, although I don't really rate his stuff compared to a lot of other dubstep. If we were going for one song, I'd say Poison Dart by The Bug.

It really needs to be Dubstep or Drum n Bass, surely! No other genres have devoted so much time and effort to the elaborate layering and re-sampling of sub-bass frequencies.

(So, seconding Poison Dart by the Bug and maybe um... the Tide by Noisia or something.)

I disagree. Point in case: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Case #2: Gustav Hölst. His "The Planets" suite is pretty fuckin' hardcore.

Alternately, you could get yourself involved with basically every Cream song ever. And "Cowboy Dan" by Modest Mouse (ah, for their pre-sellout days) has a damn fine bass line.

Other dubstep artists that should not be missed: Vex'd (his remix of "Fallen" by Distance is my favorite dubstep song, period), Pinch, 2562, Sukh Knight.

Also, Bassnectar.  Seriously (it's in his name!).  Oh, and Tipper, and Otto Von Schirach.

In the vein of Kyuss and Electric Wizard, also: OM, Ufomammut, Bongripper, Acid King, Indian, Zoroaster, and YOB.

If you want to make some ludicrous shit happen, blast Growing at top volume.

DO IT.

I think that Colour Haze, Dead Meadow, and Moccassin provide more dynamic yet just as powerful bass.  This is what I meant by using subwoofers for good, never evil.  Boris and Sunn O))) will have a bunch of angry neighbors with soiled pants knocking on your door.

Shane clearly you need to spend more time going through your iTunes library and making mental notes on every band in there.

Also, Rush.

Obligatory DRAGONFORCE.

Seriously, if you're not playing "Valley of the Damned" with 15-foot subs, you might as well just be listening to Joan Baez.

ALSO: Wolfgang Amadeus Fucking Mozart. Fuck Yngwie Malmsteen, Mozart's second middle name was "Fucking" long before his.
