Indie Rock Movie trailer finally up!
Jackie Blue:
Is it supposed to be funny?
I honestly can't tell.
ShreddingMyNotes:
This is about a fictitious band. The actual band (from Denver) started after I started shooting this movie.
No, Pedro The Lion is not an emo band.
Yes, it's supposed to be funny. I'm just trying to figure out if it's funny to people outside the indie music industry. Right now, it's my understanding that it's funny to most anyone that's been in a touring indie rock band, and like, the few other people who know things about tour history of bands from the last twenty years, but that seems to be the target market right now.
Jackie Blue:
I've been in plenty of these so-called indie rock bands of which you speak, and I didn't find the trailer funny at all.
Which is why I was confused as to whether it was trying to be. It doesn't look particularly bad, just... I don't know, the "humor" is way too subtle, it's not like Indie Rock Spinal Tap if that's what you were aiming for.
Scandanavian War Machine:
i got really excited when i read "Man Man" then subsequently got really bummed when i read "Conor Oberst."
so i guess you could say i'm conflicted. also, i haven't watched the trailer because i'm at work.
ShreddingMyNotes:
Conor Oberst isn't in it, just members of his band with Maria Taylor.
Also, Jackie Blue, I was angling for subtle humor with both the scripted segments and the editing. The whole movie was made under a methodically similar manner to most of Christopher Guest's films, with a heavy amount of improvisation on the part of all the actors/interviewees.
Also, I'm not sure why an indie rock take on the same sort of film as This Is Spinal Tap wouldn't be FAR more subtle in its humor. Just compare the level of ostentatious spectacle between the two subcultures at the given times. I worry about the subtleties being lost, but I think the full version of the film allows time to flesh them out.
I'm bummed you guys didn't think it was funny though.
