Questionable Content Desktop Theming
« on: 23 Dec 2008, 15:40 »

(Not quite sure if this is the right place for this...)
I'm working on a Desktop Theme with Questionable Content as the main thing, but I don't have many images to use.

Here's my extremely Preliminary Work (much of my old theme left over):
Full size: http://i42.tinypic.com/2nuq4r9.jpg

What I need from you are some good Images from QC of various Characters (to put where I have a rather low-quality image of Faye, and to make some wallpapers) and maybe ideas as to what other characters should say.

Help me out?  I'm new to these forums, but you seem like an ok bunch.

EDIT: Should my spelling be Themeing or Theming?

Sure, those would be appreciated.

I was thinking for each character one pose of them with their general attitude, and one unique pose (Marten's wtf face, Faye being pouty, whatever).  The preferable resolutions are around 160x270 (doesn't have to be exact).  I'll try scouring the archives for some good comics to use.

I did this one a while ago.  It's still a favorite.  :)

Awesome.  Do you still have the original images of each character?

Sadly, no - I lost the PSD file in a hard drive crash.   :-P

Aww, that's too bad. hope you didn't lose anything important.

I've done a few hours more work (mostly behind-the scenes stuff, so it doesn't look to different).
Changed the computer up time to the weather forecast.  Still trying to decide what each specific character should say.
Got a nice picture of Hanners, and found a good one of Faye, but I failed at cutting it from the background:

(see all the white stuff around her? Also a little issue with her glasses, and the reflections on her hair look weird to me...)

If someone could cut it out better for me (and maybe change the way the light shows as a strip on her head), I would thank them so hard physics would bend around us.

v1

v2

Magnetic lasso + contract + stroke. Takes only a few seconds.

Photoshop's pen tool is, at best, tedious and badly implemented.

Agreed. Unfortunately, short of a Wacom there's no better alternative available. It's clunky and awkward, but it's industry-standard and still does things like image cutting better than most other tools. Pansy.

I have a wacom. So this is what I think of your pen tool.

Awesome Spluff, great work.  Thanks inbound soon.
By around noon tomorrow, I should have few beta versions up for you to download, if you'd like.

EDIT:
If you want to download this, you totally can!
http://salvationate.deviantart.com/art/QC-Rainmeter-alpha-107503388
It assumes you have a basic knowledge of rainmeter (how to change your weather location, etc.), but if you don't, I can help you out.

And here's my new desktop, for your viewing pleasure. http://i43.tinypic.com/in7s4p.jpg

Not totally satisfied with what Faye's "Do you want sass with that".  It fits the size well, and was hilarious at about 3 am when I put the finishing touches on this early build, but now it seems kinda stupid to me.

EDIT #2:

I just noticed that because I flipped the image, Faye's shirt reads backwords. >.<
From now on, I'm just going to try and not use any flipped images.

Edit #3 (going for a record here!):
Been going through the comic archives for more images I can use, and there are so many that would be perfect but for a word bubble or coffee machine :(
Since you guys did such a nice job cutting out Faye, do you think you could do Dora for me?
I tried the magnetic lasso, but I didn't really get it...
Here's the image I need: http://i44.tinypic.com/34zdda9.png

Thanks so much! In advance!
