QC Listravaganza 2008!
Patrick:
Okay fine I can make a list.
Top 10 albums that I only really started listening to this year but are actually older:
1. The Beatles - Revolver
2. Gotye - Like Drawing Blood (no kidding, one of the best things I've heard in 5 years)
3. Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People
4. The Band - The Band
5. Wilco - Sky Blue Sky
6. Runrig - The Highland Connection (the production is mostly shit on this album and fuck Runrig's old drummer, but still very good and worth listening to if only for "The Twenty-Five Pounder" alone)
7. Modest Mouse - Lonesome Crowded West ("Cowboy Dan" fuck yesss)
8. Modest Mouse - The Moon And Antarctica
9. Cake - Prolonging The Magic
10. Merle Haggard - 16 Biggest Hits (sue me, it's a Greatest Hits compilation, but it's worth losing elitist hipster cred)

I've always been sure this was their best album. Convincing other people of this is exceedingly difficult and I never quite got why. Sure, "The Moon..." is a great album but it really fails to capture the intensity and energy of TLCW on a lot of levels. And yeah, Cowboy Dan is awesome (and even better live since they usually finish it with a crazy improv jam and it's so awesome). Point is, any year that you can get into this album is a good year musically, as far as I'm concerned.
On an unrelated note, I wish I hadn't forgotten that m83 album either. It's definitely great.
Jackie Blue:
That's odd, all the people I know who have listened to Modest Mouse longer than "Float On" pretty much agree they peaked with LCW and it's been a steady downhill ride since then.
