No, not really. Or, if they do, it's because they've been reading and are trying to emulate this escapist fantasy bullshit. Horrible show/books about nonexistent, amoral socialites ≠ reality. Sorry kids!

Umm, what? My friends in high school did this shit. Bars are a lot more fun when you aren't supposed to be in them, and every teenager wants to pretend they're "mature." I dunno where you're from, but in real cities people do this.
Ladybug:
Yeah, even in a tiny town in northern Norway, friends of mine would go to bars before they turned 18 (legal drinking age for things under 22% ABV, 20 for things above), let alone 20 (the age limit at most bars here, except for a few ones where it's 18 and a few where it's higher), and at least attempt to act "adult" and they'd get away with it, with fake IDs and stuff. It's not exactly unheard of. Not that they'd sip martinis etc, but that probably has more to do with the culture/society itself.

--- Quote from: TheFuriousWombat on 09 Dec 2008, 12:58 ---...it's a joke. Do you know who William Faulkner is?
--- End quote ---
Nope! In my defense I had just woken up, but I still probably wouldn't have caught the reference.
TheFuriousWombat:
Ah, well that explains the confusion! Faulkner was a writer from the early-mid 1900s who was immensely gifted and wrote with an incredibly complex, often stream of consciousness style which is pretty accurately parodied in that article. He wrote 'The Sound and the Fury' which might be familiar sounding. Anyway, it would be a pretty confusing article for one not acquainted with the man's work.

Yes, they do. Except over here they drink beer.
