I'm in San Luis Obispo, which is about halfway between San Francisco and LA. You can do the LA to San Francisco drive in one day, but it's long-ish, and if you go up I-5 it's super-boring and smells like cow shit. Going up the 101, which you'd need to do to spend a night here, takes another hour or two overall, but the drive up the coast is gorgeous (and smells like ocean and garlic).
We have one extra bed and plenty of floor space. I'd have to double-check with my boyfriend, but he's generally pretty down with people from the internet and inviting strangers into our house, so I can't imagine that he'd complain.

Sam, you need to somehow chronicle your adventures so that Gilead can immortalize them in comic form.

Yeah Sam I was going to say that on your way to SF from LA stop by Bakersfield! but uh no you don't want to do that. I'm not even worth stopping by this miserable place. So do what Elizzybeth said, 101 would be so much more fun.
And if this is in the summer maybe I'll just go to LA myself
