Either you spend weeks getting ready absurdly out of season, or you have a week or two of crazy mad rush - and in the end it all gets eaten or thrown away in any case. People can be nice to each other without so much contrived fuss.
Actually, this grumpiness is mainly the result of not having a working kitchen yet.
