Good postrock bands?
look out! Ninjas!:
--- Quote from: Caspian on 14 Apr 2009, 03:56 ---Is it possible for one post to undo all the Godspeed recommendations? Because they are seriously bad. Also all GYBE side projects suck (glaring at you, ASMZ). Also1! Yndi Halda are shit but I don't know if anyone's rec-d them yet. Just cancelling them out in case someone has.

Your opinion is objectively wrong.

Hmm, I wouldn't consider a lot of those to be post-rock. That's extending the genre a bit too much. Although the name itself conveys a range of meanings, I think the understood implication, at least from what I've seen, is that bands like MONO, Explosions in the Sky and so on are post-rock while Eluvium, Hammock, Stars of the Lid ect. are ambient, The Album Leaf/Mum have a sort of IDM/ambient sound and so on. Those are a lot of good, less conventional bands you've listed but I don't think they're post-rock.
Especially not BMSR. That one is off the mark to be sure.
Big Happy Captain:
i sort of see what you guys mean, some of those are much more ambient or simply too electronica based to be considered postrock. i think those artists have stemmed from a similar direction though so the music is in the post-rocky spectrum.
i WILL argue that Hammock is pure post-rock. theyve got songs with just as much drumming or lyrics as the other major players in this thread.
