Accordions!
tuna ketchup x:
So one of my friends got a killer thrift store find for me: an accordion! "Hey, Tuna, ninety bucks for an accordion, you want?" YES. It is a student 12-bass model and is red and is apparently in near mint shape. I pick it up this weekend. I am so excited!
Does anyone here play the squeezebox? Any good starter rock/klezmer books? I already ordered the Mel Bay primer in preparation, but I'm guessing the actual songs are going to be kind of lame. I'm hoping I can figure this thing out and not just leave it in the closet like the kid who owned it. I already play piano so maybe that will help. Anyone want to start a gypsy punk band? :-D

Hey cool! A friend of mine just bought one as well, and they've started an "accordion club" in the park near where I used to live. From the only time I've picked one up, I think the hardest part will be learning the left-hand (?) chord buttons. I've been thinking about getting one myself, but I can't really justify it when I don't really play my harmonium or trumpet as much as I should...

Hmmmmm..... Gypsy punk bands. Hmmmmm...
Needs more bagpipe.
ALoveSupreme:
If you already play piano you should be fine. I'm not sure how versed in piano you are, but if you download a chord chart for the left hand side (stradella bass), you'll notice the buttons are arranged in the circle of fifths; that should make it easier to memorize the buttons. Though I'm not sure what a 12 bass looks like, I'm assuming it's just less to worry about than a standard 120 bass.

YES. My friend Davis and I are supposed to start an avant garde steampunky street band. He plays cello, and I play drums.
