Don Caballero played a show this past weekend. I thought MBV was touring now too.
Jackie Blue:
One of the first shows I ever saw was Failure. They played last in a four-band show that also included Sponge (before their MTV hit), Inch (who were awesome), and Rust (who were even more awesome). At that time, Failure was trying to sound almost exactly like Nirvana, but they were good at it. Then their next album is Fantastic Planet and suddenly everyone is on their jock because it's all "spacey".

I'm seconding Fugazi, Silkworm, Neutral Milk Hotel and Pavement. I would have also loved to see a Bear vs. Shark show.
Jackie Blue:
I saw Fugazi in a VFW the size of a large living room in Louisville in '98. Or maybe '99. I was paying more attention to my then-new girlfriend than the band, to be honest.
