They're better, but in the way that a cow turd smells less then a human turd.

Be My Head:
So, I'm just guessing here. You think: They're overwrought, repetitive, badly structured, and boring? Or some combination thereof, right?

I've heard it all before, and it's true most people either love them or completely loathe them.

Most of their acoustic and metal parts are put together fairly randomly, for unnecessarily long amounts of time. The band- and their fans, who are up there with Tool fanboys in terms of annoyance- seem to think that Opeth are onto something truly amazing, when all they've done is make songs 3 times longer then they should be. So yes, nothing you haven't heard before.

Harun:
The vocals in Ikuinen Kaamos are definitely not one of their redeeming qualities, as is the case with some metal bands. Be My Head, did you listen to both the EP and their previous LP? Because they sound pretty different from each other. If you don't like either, then to each their own I guess.

another rec: He Is Legend. Super fun, dirty, southern rock/post-hardcore

Be My Head:
I listened to their EP "Closure". I didn't mind the instrumentation, and even some of the higher pitched growls. But the low pitched ones and the clean vocals got on my nerves too easily for me to enjoy the rest of it.

Also, for prog-metal recommendations...a lot of people seem to like Cynic and Edge of Sanity (including me).
